Safe In His Arms by Claire Thompson
Reviewed by Theresa

I was very much looking forward to Hank’s story. I was very curious to see how Claire was going to redeem what by the end of Wicked Hearts seemed to me an utterly unredeemable character. Hank was one of those characters you really love to hate.  So with that said, I did approach Safe In His Arms with a bit of trepidation but by the end was so in love with not just Russell but Hank as well.

I admit to having the niggling feeling that Hank caved a bit to quickly to Russell’s dominate nature. I think maybe I just wanted him to suffer just a bit more in the very beginning. I’ve been told I have a blood thirsty nature and well, Hank was a real bastard in Wicked Hearts. But I thought that the trials Hank went through not only redeemed but humanized Hank. It was not an easy journey for either Hank or Russell but by the end of the story I felt both were better for it.

There is so much more I want to say but I’m afraid to give to much of the story away so I will end by saying that Safe In His Arms is an excellent sequel and one I highly recommend, but you definitely need to read Wicked Hearts first to get the full effect of the story.

Theresa

Book Description: In this BDSM love story, the arrogant Hank is on a tough road to redemption. Offered the love of a true Dom, he will have to fall hard before he can hope to rise. Russell is used to comforting the lonely men who seek out his services, but he doesn’t count on his own powerful reaction to the handsome, difficult Hank Seeley.

Stray by Ash Penn
Reviewed by Theresa

I had a hard time writing this review. Stray was different in the way the relationship started. One of my big shall we say, no-no’s, when reading a book is cheating and although some may say this wasn’t cheating per se, as the cheating wasn’t between the two main characters, the way they started their relationship (if you can call it that) was deceitful. I had a hard time getting around that so I think it colored my opinion of the story.

As for the rest of the story, it was an emotional time in both Terry and Dan’s life. I wanted to knock Dan upside the head. He needed to stop and listen more to what was going on around him and think with his head rather than a certain part of his anatomy. Terry definitely wasn’t innocent in all this, by any means. He should have talked a little more to Dan about what was really going on in his life but he didn’t so things headed downhill pretty fast, which was predictable. I found myself annoyed with the whole scenario.

I want to say I could have walked away from this book and not cared either way what happened to Dan and Terry but I had to know where it ended. I would not describe this story as Happily Ever After but more Happy For Now.

Theresa

Teaser: They say there’s a fine line between love and hate, and that’s precisely Terry Seymour’s problem. He hates his new housemate with a passion. He also loves him with a passion, in bed.

Book Description: Bar worker and serial slut Terry Seymour is hardly charm personified when it comes to romance. In fact, he doesn’t believe in love at all despite his latent desire for his best friend of fourteen years, builder Marc Pierce.

Dan Hutchinson is a young, homeless man living in a derelict house Marc’s halfway to renovating. When Marc announces Dan’s moving in for a while, Terry is understandably miffed. After all, it hasn’t been that long since Marc spilt with his boyfriend of a year, so why is he intent on bringing a total stranger into their home?

It seems to Terry there’s more to this arrangement than meets the eye. Marc must be providing Dan with food and lodgings in exchange for sex. And with the lusty vibes Dan sends his way, it’s not long before Terry succumbs to the boy’s talents between the sheets. But carrying on with Dan behind his best friend’s back is not easy. Or desirable. And when Terry’s plans to oust Dan fail, he’s the one who finds himself out in the cold.

News At Eleven by Jack Greene
Reviewed by Theresa

I have always thought that Jack Greene has a great way of mixing a good story with great erotica in a short amount of pages and News at Eleven is no different.

Of the two main characters, I liked Jordan the best. He knows what he wants and isn’t afraid to go after it. And Alexander is what he wants. Jordan’s personality was infectious. He easily dragged me into the story kept me there. The sparks when Jordan and Alexander are together are likely to set afire your computer so grab a cool drink, turn on the air conditioner and sit back for this short, steamy, erotic romance. You can’t go wrong with a Jack Greene story.

Book Description: Jordan is the anchorman of the first newscast aimed at the GBLT audience. He’s out and proud of it, and he’s used to getting exactly what he wants. When he sets his sights on the station manager, tall dark and handsome Alexander, he might get more than he bargained for.

Risky Maneuvers by Barbara Sheridan & Alex Voinov

Okay, so had the blurb covered what this book was about, I can say I probably wouldn’t have read it. Saying why is a spoiler, even if I feel that by not divulging the true nature of the story in the blurb is cheating the reader of making a informed decision on whether to purchase the book.

The beginning of this story had me hooked. I was interested in Mikhail and Devon’s relationship and why it fell apart. Their meeting  up again despite the circumstances was well played. Mikhail and Devon clicked for me. I like them a lot. The fact that these two are in love was obvious.  It wasn’t until about three quarters of the way through the book that things really fell apart for me, because nothing in the blurb or the story leading up to this point even hinted to where the story was actually going. Granted, it’s listed as science fiction but it didn’t start out that way and when it finally got there, I just wasn’t buying where the authors went with it. And that is a shame because up until then the book had me glued to me seat.

I would try these two authors again but I’m thinking I might find myself waiting until I read some of the reviews, just to be sure I would be getting what the blurb advertised.

Teaser: D, a former US Army captain, and Mikhail, a seductive Russian mercenary who wants to retire, join forces in a clandestine CIA op, battling both their mutual desires and an enemy who gives new meaning to the term WTF.

Book Description: A mercenary for the past decade, Mikhail Volkov is a man without a country and that suits him just fine. Playing by his own rules, on his own terms, for the price he sets, is the way he likes it best. But when a CIA contact dangles a carrot he can’t resist to entice him into a clandestine search-and-rescue, Mikhail is brought face–to-face with the biggest foe he has yet to vanquish: his own loneliness.

Growing up, Devon ‘D’ Dearborn planned to follow in his father’s footsteps as part of the Army’s Delta Force. Once commissioned, D’s own ambitions took root and he became a top-level tank commander, occasionally serving as a go-between for his CIA-employed brother and a sexy Russian mercenary. When his doubts about his chosen career and his own sexual desires impacted the perfection he demanded of himself, D resigned his commission and exchanged his Abrams tank for an 18-wheeler.

After six years, the last face D expects to see when he pulls his rig into a truck stop is that of Mikhail Volkov. D wants nothing to do with his brother’s cloak-and-dagger job, but the temptation of working alongside the Russian is too hard to resist. And so is the sexy Russian.

May Day by Bryl R. Tyne
Reviewed by Theresa

May Day is a May/December romance with an m/m/m bent—two of my favorite tropes in one book. As much as I liked May Day, I was sorry there wasn’t more of it. I really felt that this story would have benefited from being longer.

I knew what Ed was after, he wanted to get laid. It wasn’t quite so clear what Ryan and Kyle were after. I mean, it became rather obvious that Kyle was trying to find a Dom for Ryan but the why was not given. That missing information took away some of my enjoyment of the story. It was an important missing link.

That aside it was a good story. Something about Ed having both Kyle and Ryan in his life really worked for the hopeless romantic in me.  I look forward to reading some more of Bryl R. Tyne’s m/m romances. This was my first but won’t be my last.

Theresa

Book Description: His forty-ninth birthday approaching, Ed is expecting nothing more than his usual stiff drink and an anonymous fuck in the back room of Yancy’s Crossings. What he never expected was to be picked up by two college students and taken for a ride that would change his life forever.

St. Nacho’s 3: Jacob’s Ladder by Z.A. Maxfield
Reviewed by Theresa

“So I guess you‟ll be leaving tomorrow.”

My brother hadn‟t surprised me in a long time, but when he took his hand back from JT and said, “No such luck, Closet Lad. We‟re here to say. Pick a team.”

Well. Yes. That surprised me.

Lines like that are just one of the many reasons why I love Z.A. Maxfield. She never fails to make me laugh. Ms. Maxfield has a talent for keeping her readers either in laughter or tears throughout her books and quite often in both.

I love “coming out” stories but often when reading them, I find myself not really believing the story the author is telling me but that wasn’t the case with Jacob’s Ladder. It was easy to believe that what JT was feeling and doing to deny his true feelings. I felt for both JT and Jacob and I often found myself wondering exactly how this book was going to end. Ms. Maxfield kept me guessing pretty much right up to the end.

By the time I finished Jacob’s Ladder, I had been on a rollercoaster ride of emotions and kept on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen next. I’m not sure but I’m willing to bet that we meet the two men that will be starring in the next installment of Z.A. Maxfield’s St. Nacho’s series, and I can’t wait! It already promises to be another thrilling ride.

Although St. Nacho’s is a series, each book easily stands on its own but we meet characters from previous books in each so I recommend reading this series in order. I promise, you won’t be disappointed.

Teaser: When he’s having the worst day of his life, Jacob confuses Santo Ignacio EMT JT Lents for an angel from the Bible. And that’s only his first mistake with the sexy guy with the pretty green eyes. But somehow, JT seems to return his interest…

Book Description: Jacob “Yasha”” Livingston is having a bad day. First there is the head cold. Then the orgy, the fight, and the hospital. Between that and the bus driver who ejects him — after accusing him of transmitting the Swine Flu — the rest of his day seems fairly vague. Now he’s stuck in a small town called Santo Ignacio and he has a whole lot of thinking to do.

One thing is, when fate speaks in the form of an EMT, maybe it’s time to listen. One man in particular, EMT Jason “JT” Lents, with his shy smile and jade green eyes, seems more like an angel than a paramedic. But Jason has a date with a newer, prettier girl every night, despite the fact that he seems to return Yasha’s interest.

What will make JT happy? If JT is afraid of his feelings it might be Yasha’s chance to heal the healer. For this couple to find their way, it’s up to Jacob, his new friends, and the magic of St. Nacho’s.

Heartsong by S.W. Vaughn
Reviewed by Theresa

I fell in love with S.W. Vaughn a few weeks ago when I read Skin Deep, which was an absolutely awesome book on its own but when followed up with Heartsong, is even better.

I had hoped when I hit the end of Skin Deep that Vaughn would be back with Uriskel’s story and I was not let down. I do so enjoy stories of the Fae.  Laurell K. Hamilton tweaked my interest first and after that, I was devouring everything I could find. S.W. Vaughn is definitely going on my favorites list for Fae stories. She does a great job of mixing the myth with reality and keeping you interested from page one. I did not want to put this book down!

Vaughn has a lot of emotion packed into Heartsong. In Skin Deep when we meet Uriskel, he is a bit on the shady side and easy to dislike, but he soon redeems himself and garners your sympathy—although he is quick to tell you that he does not want it. Heartsong begins with Uriskel paying the price for some transgression, which is nothing new for him. Prince Braelan seems to enjoy nothing more than making Uriskel’s life a living hell. Enough so that I wanted nothing more than to see one of the prince’s many enemies get the upper hand. But Uriskel is nothing if not good at his job, even if Braelan doesn’t deserve it. I will say that that Heartsong had a lot of torture in it—more than I like—but it isn’t out of place for the story and just as the author hit the point where I might have been ready to call it quits, it quickly turned in another direction, which I was extremely grateful for.

The fireworks between Uriskel and Tristan are immediate; they definitely rub each other the wrong way or maybe the right way depending on your thinking. Their relationship has a different start, to say the least, but not an unbelievable one. After all, this is fantasy.

Although I think that Heartsong could easily stand alone, I’m sure that you would get the most enjoyment out of reading Skin Deep first.

If you have read Skin Deep than Heartsong is a must read and if you haven’t read either… well than both book need to be on your buy list.

Teaser: A slave and a prostitute, both bound to serve a Fae prince, fall into lust – and love – behind the prince’s back. But can their love break Fae laws and set them both free?

Book Description: Trystan Raines loves cock. That’s a bonus in his line of work–he’s a prostitute, and damned good at his job. But pickings have been slim lately, and he’s homeless and flat broke. So when a stranger offers him a million dollars to play escort for a month, he jumps without looking–right into a world most humans don’t know exists. The world of the Fae. And his new master-for-a-month is their gorgeous prince, Braelan, who wants to “experience” New York with a human.

Uriskel also serves Braelan, as a bodyguard, but his term is a lot longer than Trytan’s: life, without possibility of parole. He’s also Braelan’s half-brother–but he can’t let the prince know that, or the King will have him killed. Uriskel is less than pleased when Braelan introduces his new human toy, and informs him that he’s to play bodyguard to the prince in the human realm.

Trystan thinks Uri’s an asshole. Uri thinks Trystan’s a fool. But when the prince forces them to perform sexual favors with each other for his amusement, they discover mutual lust that deepens to love. Unfortunately, there’s no way the prince will let them be together–unless it’s over Uri’s dead body.

Tootsies by Sarah Black

First, let me say that foot fetishes are so not my thing. That out of the way, Tootsies was a very refreshing story. A straightforward romance, not too erotic, no secrets, no hidden agendas, and just a little kinky. Okay, maybe one hidden agenda, getting David into bed. But that was an agenda I could get on board with—lol.

I fell in love with David and Quanah Parker from word one. It was impossible not to. David is this sweet shy poet who just isn’t quite sure where he fits in, and thinks he needs to prove something to himself, if no one else. Quanah Parker is the big strong man who makes socks and moccasins, rescues alpacas, and is in love with David. He wants nothing more than to show David exactly where he fits in.

Tootsies, was a sweet, quick and easy read. The only thing that put me off was the constant use of the full name Quanah Parker. It was a bit off putting, especially during the love scenes, but all in all, a very minor complaint.

Teaser: David is hoping to see his boyhood friend Quanah Parker. But he is so much bigger than David remembered. Bigger and bossier and with a weird foot thing going on. Can David learn to love foot cream and massages and kisses on his tootsies?

Book Description: When David Miller publishes his excellent first book of poetry, his jealous-minded colleagues set him up to take a fall. Rather than be semi-fired in a quasi sex-scandal, he decides to live in his grandpa’s old log cabin, deep in the Sawtooth Mountains of Idaho. Maybe he’s hoping to run into Quanah Parker Running Bear, his best friend from childhood.

But Quanah Parker is so much bigger than he remembered. Bigger and sexier and bossier, and he seems to have this strange foot thing going on. Sucking toes, rose foot cream, rubbing dicks across the tender arches of his foot — it’s weird but kind of wonderful, too. Is David in over his head?

Pack of Lies by Vanessa Vaughn
Reviewed by Theresa

From the start of this book, something was off to me. I must have been about half way through the story before it dawned on me that there was little action and hardly any dialogue going on. It was all thoughts, feelings and perceptions of the person who’s head we’re in at the time . The story is told from the points of view of Marcus and Jack, clearly marked at the beginning of each chapter who’s POV we’re getting at the time. The author did a good job of this, I never found myself lost but as for the rest of the story…

Marcus and Jack’s relationship, if you can call it that, didn’t ring true for me. It felt contrived, and it was if I was just supposed to buy that that was the way it was supposed to be. I didn’t. The dynamics of the Pack weren’t believable to me either. If you aren’t strong enough to lead the pack, then you’re killed and the fact that Marcus had survived so long as a leader was a surprise to me.

In the end when the fight between Julian (Marcus’ rival) and Jack gets to an interesting point, where it looks as if Jack might be defeated, Marcus jumps in and puts a stop to it. I just could not see that happening at all.  The bond Marcus and Jack were forming should have been a force that the Pack couldn’t deny and the author, although she touched on this bond several times, never showed it to the Pack.

All in all, Pack of Lies just seemed to missing something.

Theresa

*********

Book Description: When Jack is attacked by a powerful werewolf one moonlit night, his world is forever changed.

Marcus is that wolf, the strong leader of his pack, who never imagined a mere mortal could ever escape him, much less ever become one of his kind. And yet, as time passes, he can’t deny the handsome human is slowly beginning to change.

No longer the civilized architect he used to be, Jack feels a new power coalescing inside of him. He barely even recognizes himself as he becomes more sexual, more impulsive, more wild in every way.

But as the bite transforms him, it also binds he and his attacker together forever. The two share a powerful unbreakable link, no matter how forcefully they may each try to deny it.

Marcus is already hiding secrets from the other wolves, and his position as Alpha is threatened. Could Jack be the new ally Marcus needs to set things right, or will their desire for one another draw them away from all they know and alter the course of their lives forever?

Neil’s Guardian Angel by Carol Lynne Reviewed by Theresa

Neil’s Guardian Angel by Carol Lynne is another homerun or 8 second ride – lol

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I love older man, younger men stories. That trope has always appealed to me but it isn’t the only reason I found this story so good. What I really loved was the D’s aspect of it, which was not by any means a big part of the story, but a part of how Ben thought his life would be when he finally found the “one.” It was refreshing to see the Dom as the one unsure in the relationship and the one to make major changes.

Neil has his own worries, afraid that once he is better, Ben won’t want him anymore. This leads Neil to make some decisions that could damage the relationship they have built. It was heartwarming to see these two men both struggling to make changes in their lives—not always healthy ones—to please the other man.

The end of this book brings us to the one-year anniversary of the accident that happened in Cattle Valley Days and a very emotional dedication ceremony of the new fair grounds for the four Cattle Valley residents who died. I had a lump in my throat and tears in my eyes. Carol Lynne is among the handful of authors I read who can add as much real life into her stories and still keep me interested, and that is saying something because when I read I’m usually wanting to escape all thoughts of reality.

I could go on and on about why I loved this book but I won’t. Let me just say that Neil’s Guardian Angel is a must read, especially for those that love a good May/December romance.

Mobry’s Dick by K.Z. Snow Reviwed by Theresa

This was a very interesting book but sadly, not as good as I thought it would be. I wanted more details on the mystery of what happened to Alain Mobry; that was what really intrigued me. We do eventually find out what happened to him but not really how.

The relationship between Cameron and Paul just didn’t ring true for me. It felt very contrived, and the resolution of the conflict was so anticlimactic that when it hit the end, I was left a little dumbfounded thinking, “This is it?”

K.Z. Snow is a great author but I just didn’t find Mobry’s Dick as enjoyable as I have so many of her other books.

Theresa
**********
Readers Note: While this is a contemporary story it does start out in the late 19th Century and then we get views from the past in the form of flashback through out the story.

Teaser: While Cameron inches his way out of the closet, Paul struggles to free himself from a sugar daddy who’ll stop at nothing to get what he wants. Romance binds the unlikely pair as they tackle the mystery of the legendary automaton: Mobry’s Dick.

Description: Late-19th-century illusionist Alain Mobry, a short, homely man with a clubfoot, is known primarily for his elaborate clockwork automata. But his private life is even more complex than his mechanisms. Mobry is a homosexual and a member of the Green Carnation Club, a secret gathering place for gay men of the theater. He’s also dabbled in “real” magick. There are hints of it in an illusion called the Fountain of Youth–in which a beautiful youth called Puck, never seen in public, emerges from a diorama and disappears back into it–and in a profane automaton Alain has devised specifically to entertain the Green Carnation’s members. He would like his creation to be for one man in particular, a fellow magician with whom he’s infatuated. But he never gets the chance to offer his gift…

Over 100 years later, a peculiar item turns up at an outdoor flea market. It looks something like a blunt-nosed artillery shell to Cameron Waters, the young real estate broker who buys the piece out of curiosity. It looks like the legendary automaton known as Mobry’s Dick to Paul Patrillo, a graduate student who’s been researching the history of stage magic.

While Cameron inches his way out of the closet and Paul struggles to free himself from a sugar daddy who’ll stop at nothing to get what he wants, the unlikely pair grow closer as they tackle the mystery of Mobry’s Dick.

Rising Hell by Nimphie Knox Reviewed by Theresa

Rising Hell is available for purchase at Cassiopeia Publishing.

When I first read the blurb for this book, I thought, wow, what an awesome story line. As far as the story line went, yes, it was a very imaginative perspective that I really enjoyed. But, I ran into a few problems that led to serious issues for me as a reader. One, the book has been translated from, I believe, Spanish to English, so I found myself tossed from the story more than once, rereading what I had just read to make sure I had read it right or filling in the correct usage. I know this isn’t something that the author can control, and translation is a tricky thing.

My second issue was, there were so many players I could not keep track of who was who, who belonged to whom or who was sleeping with whom. Just when the story would get into issues with the two main characters, Emmanuel and Alexieu, it would jump to another character’s story. This constantly kept me trying to regain my balance.

I really hate the fact that I did not enjoy this story better because it had the potential to be awesome but in the end, I think there was too much going on, even for 278 pages, to make it a truly enjoyable.

Reader Warning: This story includes some religious twists that some readers might find objectionable

Man and Wolf by Kate Roman Reviewed by Theresa

Man and Wolf is available for purchase at Loose Id.

This book started out pretty good. I was drawn into Rob’s story. The relationship between him and Jamie flowed. They clicked as a couple and I did get the feeling they were soulmates. But less than half way through the book the story seemed to fizzle out. It didn’t keep my attention. I was ready for the story to be over long before it was and I considered not finishing it.

I didn’t buy the Animal Control Officer as the villain in the story. It all seemed too fake. I kept waiting for the computer investigating done by Jamie’s friend to ring bells somewhere and bring in the real villains in this story and I was quite upset when that wasn’t where the story went. I would have bought that whole storyline much easier than the route Ms. Roman chose.

The story had potential but in the end, I think it just fell flat.

Binary Stars 2: Perfect Stranger and Foreign Relations
By Jack Greene
Reviewed by Theresa

I have become quite a fan of Jack Greene since the first book of his I read; I can’t get enough his stories. They are more than erotica and although short, they pack a punch. I’m more than little drawn to the hint of dominance that often appears in his stories.

In Binary Stars 2, Perfect Strangers is by far my favorite. I have a thing for the sexy hero coming to the rescue. There was just something about this chance meeting between Robert and Jordan that I found to be extremely erotic.

If you like Jack Greene, then you’ll love Binary Stars 2. If you have never read him before, then I recommend Binary Stars 2, it is erotic romance at its finest.

Heart of Submission by Claire Thompson

Heart of Submission by Claire Thompson is available for purchase at
1 Romance Ebooks.

I don’t read much het romance these days and I was going to give Heart of Submission a pass. It didn’t scream at me at first, but I do read Claire Thompson so I picked it up. I have to say it is a definite winner!

One of the most romantic BDSM novels I have read, the relationship between Chase and Kate was heartwarming and the dynamics of the D’s relationship between the two was beautiful. I often find myself very uncomfortable reading an m/f BDSM book but I had none of those feelings reading Heart of Submission. This story shows a loving D’s relationship at its finest. I was so enthralled; I didn’t want to put the book down.

For those of you who love BDSM novels, I can tell you that Heart of Submission is a must read and for those not sure BDSM novels are for you, Heart of Submission would be a great starting point. Claire Thompson knows how to write a D’s relationship that leaves you wanting more.

Sluggo Snares A Vampire by Rick R. Reed Reviewed by Theresa

Sluggo Snares a Vampire by Rick R. Reed is available for purchase at Amber Allure.

After getting over my initial upset that this wasn’t going to be a happily ever after romance with Sluggo riding off in the sunset with the real Master of the Night, I have to admit that I found this short story by Rick R. Reed to be very humorous. Also, I can definitely see why he is called the Stephen King of gay novels.

If you’re looking for a romance, this isn’t one, but if you want a dark satire on vampires, I can recommend Sluggo Snares a Vampire. It had me rolling. I haven’t laughed so hard at a book than I did when I hit the end of Sluggo Snares a Vampire.

Reader Warning: some parts of this story are not for the faint of heart. This definitely qualifies as dark fantasy.

Book Description: When Sluggo cruises online chat rooms, he isn’t looking for a hook-up, he’s looking for love. But love has a way of being elusive, especially when you’re not being honest. Presenting himself as “Sir Raven,” Sluggo promises his chat room cohorts he is the “master of the night.”

And then he meets someone who challenges him – someone who claims the title, “master of the night” as his own. TepesAllure’s enigmatic and flirtatious messages to Sluggo start out as fun banter, but quickly turn to eerie disquiet.

How does TepesAllure know so much about Sluggo life? How can he know-without even a picture to go on-what Sluggo looks like? And what’s all this about an age numbering in the centuries and a curious taste for blood?

Has Sluggo snared a vampire? Or has the vampire snared him? As the night unfolds, so do the advances of TepesAllure… and even when Sluggo tries to escape, he finds that getting out is not nearly as easy as getting in.

But to make their online connection real, TepesAllure needs Sluggo to invite him in. Will Sluggo succumb to Tepes’ allure? And will the man of his dreams turn out to be a nightmare?

Brothers Without Borders by Leiland Dale Reviewed by Theresa

Brothers Without Borders by Leiland Dale Available for purchase at Silver Publishing.

I absolutely loved this story. Brother love is one of my secret reading pleasures. Okay, so maybe it isn’t as big a secret as I pretend it is and as long as the authors keep writing it, I’ll keep reading.

Avery and Hunter’s story is very touching, both having secretly been in love with each other for years and neither having the courage to say or do anything about it where the other was concerned. I cried a bit; it’s a little sad being so in love with someone and knowing you’re not supposed to be according to life’s rules. But when both finally face their love for each other, it is true that sometimes love has no borders.

I wondered briefly about the introduction of two other brothers toward the end of the book. What are the odds of two friends both being in love with their brothers? But then I decided that often like calls to like and Leiland wrote the story so well, it was very easy for me to believe. I wonder, too, will there be a sequel?
If you enjoy brother love, then you definitely want to read Brothers Without Borders.

Leiland Dale gives us a wonderfully sweet erotic story in a short amount of pages.

Because It’s True by Willa Okati Reviewed by Theresa

Because It’s True by Willa Okati is available for purchase at Loose Id.

Willa Okati has an awesome book on her hands. I thoroughly enjoyed Because It’s True. I fell in love with both Gavin and Ford. There was just a chemistry between the two that pulled at my heart. I found myself in tears at many points in the book, and wanting to knock both men’s heads together equally: Ford for relying way too much on the signs he saw and Gavin for not believing enough.

In the very beginning of the book, I was a bit turned off by the signs. I thought at first everything was a little farfetched but the more I read, the more I was drawn into the story and the more of a believer I became. I did think that Ford relied a bit to much on the signs but it was definitely part of his charm. Gavin, once burned, was a little harder to make a believer out of, but Fords gentle nature and winning personality eventually wins him over.

Check out Because It’s True by Willa Okati, a sweet funny romance that will pull at your heartstrings and tickle your funny bone.

Teaser: After being jilted by his fiancé, Gavin turned his back on love — until he met Ford, who blew into his life like a sexy, good-natured tornado. He made Gavin want to believe in happily ever after. Ford says he should, because it’s true.

Book Description: Believing in love and in luck is something Gavin swore he’d never do again — until he meets Ford. After being left at the altar by his former fiancé, he’s a firm disbeliever in good fortune and love. Though there’s an immediate attraction between himself and Ford, they’re just too different to make a relationship work. The sex is explosive and despite himself Gavin even grows to like Ford’s quirky sense of humor and skewed view of life. Isn’t that good enough?

Not for Ford. A happy-go-lucky diviner of fortunes and omens, he’s sure from what he’s seen that Gavin is the love of his life and the man he’ll marry. He makes it his mission to overcome Gavin’s doubts and fears and teach him how to love again. Never giving up in his enthusiastic pursuit of the once-burned twice-shy secretary, he brings Gavin back to life and helps restore him to the man he used to be.

Ford makes Gavin want to believe in love again. But when Ford begins to lose his faith, it’s up to Gavin to save the magic they have between them and blaze the trail toward their happily ever after.

Pinky Swear by Lynn Lorenz Reviewed by Theresa

Pinky Swear is available for purchase at Amber Allure.

Lynn Lorenz has yet another great romance in Pinky Swear

I wasn’t sure at first—with the book starting when the boys were only nine—but I was quickly drawn into the hilarity of the situation. Lane’s mom had me rolling on the floor and I swear Ms. Lorenz was so vivid in the details that I could have been there in person watching the priest “tromping” around the backyard, exorcising everything in sight. It was priceless.

She moves on to highlight small, memorable points in the boys life as young teens to teenagers, the turning point in their lives at college, and then onto them as men. Each separate scene rolled right into the next. I was so sucked into the stor,y I quickly lost time. Who needs sleep? It is overrated anyway;) lol

I really wanted to crawl into the book and knock Matt upside the head. I felt so sorry for Lane. Matt was totally clueless but I had to wonder what would have happened if Lane had spoken up sooner. Would things have been different?

The visual images Lynn created in my mind of Hurricane Katarina broke my heart but were a perfect point in life to bring these two men back together and for Matt to redeem himself. But trust me, Lane doesn’t make it all that easy on him.

If you haven’t read Pinky Swea,r you really need to get it. This one will definitely be going in my Lynn Lorenz favorites list.

Book Description: Lane and Matt have been best friends since they were ten years old. They’ve been through everything together—childhood adventures in their New Orleans uptown neighborhood, Lane’s stuttering, Matt’s alcoholic father, high school angst, and “coming out” in college. All through the years, they’d shared secrets and, using the powerful pinky swear, vowed to keep every one of them. But neither Lane nor Matt ever told each other his biggest secret—that they were in love with each other.

For Lane, Matt was everything he wasn’t—gorgeous, sexy and outgoing. He had a different boyfriend every week, and Lane couldn’t get a date, let alone the man of his dreams. For Matt, he could never measure up to Lane, never be good enough for the man who set his heart on fire. Neither wanted to risk the deep friendship they shared to find out if the other felt more. Yet after one night of incredible drunken passion, Lane woke up to find Matt gone and a note saying he was sorry and not much more.

Four years later and half a country separated, one fateful storm, Hurricane Katrina, brings the old friends together again. But four years is a long time, and Lane’s grown up, matured, more sure of himself than ever. When Matt rushes home from the West Coast to find the friend he loved and fled, he discovers not just the man he left behind, but a man who knows what he wants—a best friend and a lover who won’t run, who’ll stay forever.

Now, it’s up to Matt to make the pinky swear…

The Blue Moon Cafe by Rick R. Reed Reviewed by Theresa

Blue Moon Café by Rick R. Reed is available for purchase at Amber Allure.

Although I really liked the story line, I just couldn’t seem to get as involved in the story as I would have liked. I’ve read other Rick Reed stories that I have enjoyed quite a bit so you could say this one was a one-off. Thad and Sam didn’t endear themselves to me as lovers. I didn’t feel the emotion between them that should have been there. The suspense, now that is a different story. I figured out who was who pretty easily but I was kept wondering what was going to happen next and that I liked. Some of the scenes are not for the faint of heart; he is quite descriptive in the attacks.

I wasn’t happy with the ending and I’m really hoping that there is a follow-up to this story. No matter the direction it headed, I would like to see what happens next.

The Master’s Lover by Brenna Lyons
Reviewed by Theresa

The Master’s Lover is available for purchase at Phaze Books.

Looking for a short story to end the day? I can recommend The Master’s Lover. This was an erotic romance that was quick and easy to read. Brenna Lyons is a great storyteller.

I don’t usually read a lot of fantasy and I guess I would describe this as futuristic fantasy with an historical mix to it. I was immediately drawn to Galon and his need for companionship. I felt his pain when his choice for the night turned out to be the wrong man.

There were a few twists thrown in that really drew me to both men in the story. Anzel is a hero you can love. He takes Galon under his wing and into his bed, and quickly sets about making everything right in both their worlds.

Boystown by Marshall Thornton Reviewed by Theresa

Boystown by Marshall Thronton is available for purchase at Torquere Books.

Before Boystown, I had never read anything by Marshall Thornton so I wasn’t quite sure what to expect and after starting the first of the three stories in Boystown, I think had prepared myself to hate it. The stories of Nick Nowak Private Eye are based in the early eighties, BA (before Aids). I’m not a prude but promiscuous sex doesn’t do it for me and sex without condoms… well, I’m not going there. But, as I was reminded by someone, the author was only being true to the times. I’m one of those people who seldom scraps a book—my innate curiosity usually keeps reading until the end— and in this case, the more I read, the more I found I was actually starting to like the stories. Nick has a hard time turning down a pretty face and a hard cock. Oddly enough, I think that became part of his charm and I just kept reminding myself that it was 1981.

I am looking forward to the next Boystown. I want to know where Nick Nowak’s life leads him. I wasn’t left with a cliffhanger, which I do appreciate, but there was just enough of a tease that I am curious to find out if maybe the next Nick Nowak stories will show him in a slightly different light. Either way, I will be reading Boystown 2, which as I understand, barring any complications, will release on my birthday July 28th ;)

I apologize that I didn’t review this book as three different stories but I found I had a hard time separating them in my mind. Each story may have had its own drama, but the ending of each just led right into the next so it really was hard to view them as different stories.

Books Description: A former police officer turned private investigator, Nick Nowak is haunted by his abrupt departure from the department, as well as, the traumatic end of his relationship with librarian Daniel Laverty. In these three stories set in Chicago during the early eighties, Nick locates a missing young man for a mysterious client, solves a case of arson at a popular nightspot, and goes undercover to prove a dramatic suicide was actually murder.

When he isn’t detecting, and sometimes when he is, Nick moves through a series of casual relationships. But his long suppressed romantic side surfaces when he meets Detective Bert Harker. Will he give love another chance? Or, will he continue to bury himself in the arms of strangers?

An Academic Dilemma by Alix Bekins Reviewed by Theresa

An Academic Dilemma is available for purchase at Dreamspinner Press.

I liked An Academic Dilemma by Alix Bekins, a kinky m/m that turns into an even kinkier m/m/m.

When I started this book I expected m/m/m and although I did eventually get the ménage it wasn’t really m/m/m until the end. And just so I’m not misunderstood, it was a really good story, just not what I expected. I found how the story began to be unique and, in a way, a bit underhanded. Even though Ian was honest with Rodrigo from the start about having a partner, for obvious reasons, he wasn’t honest about who his partner was. I didn’t find it hard to buy that if there was going to be a relationship between these three it would have to start out the way it did. It worked for them and at the same time, for me. If you enjoy unusual m/m romance, I think it will work for you too.

Book Description: Art history student Rodrigo is in the middle of a busy semester when he literally runs into a sexy librarian. He and Ian discover they have more in common than just instant attraction and friendship; there’s a kinky element to their affair they both enjoy. But Rodrigo is also drawn to Professor Daniel Sullivan, and he just can’t shake the desire he feels for the older man.

The end of the term reveals a few surprising secrets about both objects of Rodrigo’s desires, and while he’s thrilled by the games of trust and passion with Ian, it’s fantasies of Daniel dominating him that are setting Rodrigo on fire.

Firehouse Heat by Carol Lynne Reviewed by Theresa

Firehouse Heat by Carol Lynne is available for purchase at Total-e-Bound.

I do believe that every time Carol has a new book out, it becomes my new favorite and Firehouse Heat is no different. There was something special about this book that really appealed to me. Carol showed us a vulnerable side of her hero that we don’t often see in our heroes.

At forty-eight years old, Leo Burkowski just doesn’t see in himself what others—especially Sammy—do. He is very self-conscious not only about his age, but his body as well, having bought into cruel comments from an ex-lover. As an older woman, this is something I can identify with and it really endeared Leo to me, even more so than many of the men in Cattle Valley I’ve grown to love. And it isn’t just Leo you fall in love with. Sammy realizes early on it isn’t their age difference bothering Leo and our young hero does a great job of not only telling but showing Leo just how handsome and sexy he finds him.

Firehouse Heat was not only an awesome story but also a beautifully written romance that had me breaking out the tissue box. And just in case when you’re done reading this one you need an excuse to come back for more (as if!), Carol leaves us with a bit of a sad tease about what we can find in our next visit to Cattle Valley. Something tells me it will be a real tearjerker.

Theresa
**********

Book Description: Despite the eighteen year age difference, Sammy Lee wants his new boss, Assistant Fire Chief, Leo Burkowski. Living and working side by side at the firehouse several days a week is wearing on Lee’s control. When Leo asks for his help with a special project, Sammy can’t take it anymore and makes his move.

Although Sammy is playing for keeps, Leo refuses to think of the relationship as anything more than a passing affair. Age has been an issue in the past, and although Leo’s attracted to the younger man, he’s learned the hard way to keep his heart out of it.

Will the heat generated between the two men be enough to melt Leo’s resolve, or will Sammy’s hopes go down in a blaze of disappointment?
