Repertoire: Cardiff by Mychael Black
Reviewed by Kathy K.

Wow! I’ve read a couple of other books by Mychael Black and, short though they may be, they never fail to amaze. Although I discovered later that this is the second book in a series, it easily read as a standalone story… that’s not to say that I’ve not already bought the previous story because I have.
Vincent and Devon together were hot and absolutely wonderful; I really wanted to see how they got to where they were at the beginning of Repertoire: Cardiff.
The other stories by Mychael Black that I’ve read have had the same beautiful relationship dynamics found in this book. These dynamics are only a part of the reason, though, that I’ve become a fan of the author’s writing. The other reasons are the other story aspects; the thrilling adventure and action, the conflicts and the romance… always a supremely satisfying experience.
If you’ve never read anything by Mychael Black then do yourself a favour and find one of his stories. Even in a short 33 page book, Mr. Black creates a world and characters that are not only larger-than-life, but will lead to a very enjoyable read.

Dawn Endeavor 2: Hayashi’s Hero by Marie Harte Reviewed by Kathy K.

This is the first book that I’ve read by Marie Harte and, having checked out her backlist, I know that I’m in store for hours more fabulous reading. And yes, even though this is a second book in the Dawn Endeavor series, it stands alone very well. I really want to know a lot more about the Circs in general and the men from Dawn Endeavor team in particular.
The Circs of the Dawn Endeavor team are genetically and psychically enhanced humans created to provide a new and better armed force. Unfortunately there are only four men of the original SEAL team that survived the change. And these four, Kisho Hayashi, Jesse Fallon, Frederik Gunnar Tersch and Julian Hawkins work and live together; they are family. The world that Marie Harte has created is fascinating and I’m really looking forward to exploring other stories featuring the other members of the team.
This is Kisho’s story and it’s emotionally charged and thrilling at the same time. Kisho still lives the maxim ‘Don’t ask, don’t tell’; he’s afraid that if teammates discover that he’s gay they will reject him. And these men are his only friends or family; if he loses them, he loses everything. It hurt to see him so afraid of losing everyone that mattered because of his sexuality that he couldn’t be who he really was. Of course that lasted until the arrival of the new team member.
Morgan Reynolds is not a Circ, but he’s also more than just regular human. He’s also the man that Kisho’s been having visions of for a long time and Morgan has plans behind plans when it comes to Kisho… and I LOVED it. Watching as Morgan would tease Kisho, drive him a little crazier was great. Kisho took himself way too seriously and Morgan’s just the man to fix that little problem.
I loved the way they interact, especially with each other, but also within the team. These two are perfect for each other!
All I can say is, if you’re a fan of hot man-sex, steamy romance and a story that just doesn’t quit, then treat yourself to Marie Harte’s Hayashi’s Hero. You may find yourself wanting to explore the world of Circs in more detail just as I do.

Book Teaser: Visions of sexy green eyes haunt Kisho’s dreams. He’s a trained weapon, comfortable in the beast that lives within his soul. And a man who sees the future should know better than to think he can outrun his own scorching hot destiny.
Book Description: Genetic manipulation has created the first super soldier, the Circ. Able to transform into hulking, inhuman beasts at will, the second generation of Circs, under Project Dawn Endeavor, is much more dangerous than the first. Psychically gifted, the secret four-man team who once worked for the U.S. Navy now belongs to the mysterious Mrs. Sharpe. Bent on cleaning up science gone wrong around the globe, Mrs. Sharpe sends the men of Dawn Endeavor out on behalf of the United States government. But there’s more to her agenda than patriotism. If only the team knew what she really had planned.
Kisho Hayashi lives in two worlds. Reality as he knows it is a team of men closer than brothers, Circs he would die for, Circs he would kill for. But in dreams and waking wisps of potential tomorrows, Hayashi is haunted by a single male face that confuses and worries him. He’s a trained weapon, comfortable in the beast that lives within his soul. But for a man who sees snatches of the future, he should know better than to think he can outrun his own destiny.

The Blue Moon Cafe by Rick R. Reed Reviewed by Theresa
Blue Moon Café by Rick R. Reed is available for purchase at Amber Allure.
Although I really liked the story line, I just couldn’t seem to get as involved in the story as I would have liked. I’ve read other Rick Reed stories that I have enjoyed quite a bit so you could say this one was a one-off. Thad and Sam didn’t endear themselves to me as lovers. I didn’t feel the emotion between them that should have been there. The suspense, now that is a different story. I figured out who was who pretty easily but I was kept wondering what was going to happen next and that I liked. Some of the scenes are not for the faint of heart; he is quite descriptive in the attacks.
I wasn’t happy with the ending and I’m really hoping that there is a follow-up to this story. No matter the direction it headed, I would like to see what happens next.

A Question Of Trust by Barbara Donlon Bradley
Reviewed by Kathy K.
A Question of Trust is available for purchase at Phaze Books.
Lately I’ve been more open to Sci-fi, Futuristic books, mainly because I’ve found books that tell a good story, regardless of how ‘different’ they are. One thing that I noticed about Barbara Donlon Bradley’s story is the use of many ‘foreign’ words… by this I mean words from another world. And, surprisingly, I didn’t mind it. It kept the flow of the story moving in a way that more common words probably wouldn’t have. There was no fluctuating between now and future and I appreciated that.
I enjoyed the relationship between Sana and Karni and the way it developed as the story progressed. Two people who, thinking they just didn’t like the other, discovering that the opposite is true. But it wasn’t a lot of overly dramatic moments and I really liked that.
The quest that they were on was good but, at times, I felt that we were being led in a different direction. I’m not sure if that’s because I didn’t get some of the nuances at the beginning, or if we were filled in on changes as they occurred, but overall it worked alright.
One thing that did impinge on my notice was the somewhat frequent poor spelling, just plain wrong-word usage and sometimes missing words. It didn’t ruin the story for me, but there were enough of them to drive a strict grammar & spelling reader rather crazy. (eg. dept for debt)
But I am going to be on the lookout for more stories by Barbara Donlon Bradley; she’s an engaging storyteller and brings a lot of interesting details to her work.

A Prophecy of Destiny by Leiland Dale Reviewed by Theresa

A Prophecy of Destiny is available for purchase at 1 Place For Romance
Leiland Dale is definitely going on my favorite authors list. I enjoyed his When the Bluebird Calls but I loved A Prophecy of Destiny. I think this series is going to be a hit.
The characters are very well developed. I fell in love with Grandpa Corey. He is quite a character in his own right and any man that packs up his bookstore in two weeks to move away with his grandson and his mate, well, how can you not fall in love? I thought ‘the prophecy’ was creative and imaginative; I liked the history between shifters and non-shifters.
All in all, this is a really good story I’d recommend it anyone who loves the paranormal. Granted, it is hard these days to do something truly original when it comes to werewolves and vampires but I think Leiland has done a great job of adding his own twist to this theme. Enough that the Ancient Prophecy series is one I’m sure to be following to the end.

MIA Case Files: Wolfsbane by KC Burn

Wolfsbane is available for purchase at Loose Id.
This was not only an enjoyable paranormal story it was a wonderful romance. I was going to say ‘sweet’, and it was in some ways, but the characters, especially Carmichael, really couldn’t be called anything like sweet. Adam on the other hand, I can call cute AND sweet AND sexy. KC Burns has written a strong character-driven story rather than one that is action filled. There isn’t a lot of information on the Umbrae; it seems that they’re mostly background, but what there was worked for me. I did get the impression that we may, hopefully, get more MIA Case Files stories in the future… and I’ll be very happy with that!
The focus of the book was definitely the relationship between Adam and Carmichael, and for the romance it was excellent.
However, if you’re hoping for more emphasis on the paranormal / werewolf element or more action, less relationship you may be disappointed. But for me, I was in no way left feeling let down; I’m a romance junkie and K.C. Burns and Wolfsbane left me satisfied all the way.

Win A Copy of Del Fantasmas: Duck Fart by Jade Buchanan Reviewed by Theresa
When buying a book, what is the first thing that grabs your attention?
In my case, the first thing is the cover. When I scan through pages and pages of books if the cover doesn’t jump out at me, I keep right on scrolling. I have been known to buy a book based on the cover alone and yes, I have had some duds, but it proves my point that the cover sells the book.
Second up are author names. We all have our must-buy authors who publishers could package in a plain brown wrapper with no blurb and only the author’s name and we would buy it.
Third—titles. I’ve been known to pass up a book because the title just didn’t do it for me and this is where I’m sure I miss out on a lot. Books really are more than a title, as I learned recently with Jade Buchanan’s Del Fantasma: Duck Fart….
For me the Del Fantasma series had one serious strike against it as I’ve never really liked the cover for this series (Yes, if you haven’t figured it out, I am a cover snob. I freely admit it). I’m sure there are wonderful stories but the covers just never grabbed my attention so I skipped them. As I’ve learned—my loss.
So, back to Duck Fart. I read this book on sort of a dare—one I gave myself. Then, just to make sure I really read it, a well-meaning friend backed it up by officially daring me to review it. Thank You – you know who you are!! Yes, Jade Buchanan wrote it on a dare, and I read it on a dare.
Although the title didn’t do it for me, I did read the blurb and well…my next weakness came in to play. Duck Fart is an m/m/m story and that does do it for me. Sexual component aside, the story was funny and emotional. I felt the pain that Bailey did when he found out that Adam had already mated with another as well as the instant attraction Keith felt upon meeting Bailey. I laughed myself silly at Drake’s outrage over Bailey’s comment about how he couldn’t bone a duck. I swear I could hear him squawking in my bedroom. It was a wonder these three men finally found each other in the end as they constantly rubbed each other the wrong way…except for when they were rubbing each other the right way—lol. It is easy right off to see Keith and Bailey together but took a bit more time to warm up to Drake. He is a prickly duck to say the least, but when you get to know him, you realize this trio is meant to be. Bailey is very naïve and that is very apparent and a very big part in why he doesn’t see what is right in front of him from the start.
I enjoyed this story so much, just writing this I want to go back and read it again and I just finished it.
If you haven’t bought or read Del Fantasma: Duck Fart by Jade Buchanan available at 1 Romance Ebooks, what are you waiting for? I promise that along with laughing yourself silly over the outright humor you’ll be rooting this trio on to the end!
So what did I learn from this little experience? That the old adage is true… Never judge a book by its cover or title as the case may be. Oh and Duck Fart Yumm – and no I’m not going to tell you what it is you have to buy the book to find out *insert evil laugh here*
I will be giving further investigation into more of the Del Fantasma series and find out what else I have been missing out on. Black Wolf Adam’s story being at the top of that list.
**Because I fell in love this book and I want to share it with others I am going to give a copy of this book away to one lucky winner all you have to do is leave a comment telling me how it is you choose a book is it the author alone, the book cover or title or something all together different come one be honest I was;) the contest will run from today Wednesday February 24, 2010 to Saturday February 27, 2010 (11:59 PM – CST). Book Description: Keith Malone is incredibly content. He loves coming around Del Fantasma… great food, great company, and a decent place to rest his soul when he needs it. Plus, it doesn’t hurt that Cody lets him dust off his carpenter skills with the odd job here and there.
Bailey Mitchell is incredibly nervous. He’s come all this way to San Diego, following up on a chance encounter that happened months earlier, and now he doesn’t know what to do. One glance and it’s obvious Adam’s already taken. What’s a lonely Siamese shifter to do?
Drake McKale is incredibly grouchy. He’s sick and tired of every shifter he’s run across making fun of him. Hey, duck’s have feelings too! So what if he’s smaller than everyone else? Spoiling for a fight he can actually win, he decides to pick on the shy, little kitty in the corner. Only, Drake never reckoned the diminutive cat would proposition him. Or that the big human in the corner would want in on the action.
One part burly human, one part shy Siamese shifter and one part twinky (and kinky) duck shifter… layer together and enjoy!

Lucas by Eliza Gayle Reviewed by Kathy K.

Lucas, the first book in Eliza Gayle’s “Black Cougar” series is a shape shifter tale with magical elements. I enjoyed the way that Ms. Gayle combined the two components but where I found the story hard to follow was in the intangibles. In some places we would be inundated with a lot of general information—mention of the history of Kira’s or Lucas’ clans; the councils and their rules; the clans’ abilities—and not enough pertinent detail. One example that I can use without giving away plot is the first bit in the book description: Plagued by false visions and erotic dreams of a man she’s never met, she fears losing both her psychic powers and her sanity. All I could think was, if she’s worried that she’s having false visions and erotic dreams, how does she know that the man she’s dreaming of exists? And that type of thing happened again and again throughout the story. I could not correlate what I was being told with what the character was thinking.
There were a few instances where something would happen and then it just petered out; there was also a lot left unexplained. I guess that goes along with the surfeit of vague knowledge without enough specific particulars.
For the most part, Lucas and Kira’s relationship and the development thereof went well. But when Lucas finally met Kira in person, even though they’d had some very intimate encounters on a psychic level, he didn’t connect the two. For me that didn’t ring true. I kept feeling as though I was being pulled out of the story when an event that was begun went nowhere, or when the characters’ reactions to each other were just too confusing.
But I’ve read another story by Eliza Gayle and while I had trouble keeping in the story, I know for a fact that others who read the same book, were entranced and couldn’t get enough. It just goes to show that not all stories are going to work for everyone. For myself, Ms. Gayle isn’t a perfect fit, but for someone else she’s magical. If the story sounds intriguing, if you’re a fan of Ms. Gayle’s writing, then I heartily recommend Lucas.

His Wolf Heart by Lila Dubois Reviewed by Theresa
His Wolf Heart is author Lila Dubois’s first m/m story and she did herself proud—I was quite impressed. I opened it up to read just the first few lines and before I knew it, I was at the last page. It is a short story—not much angst but then, it didn’t need it. I enjoyed the straightforward romance. It was refreshing and sweet.

Riding The Wolf by Jessica Quinn and Mary Winter Reviewed by Kathy K.
The relationships between Daniel and Red, Red and Jack and Jack and Daniel provided a range of reactions and interactions. In some ways I would have liked to see more between Daniel and Jack but, of the three, Red is the main focus. She’s a strong woman who is attracted to strong men and she is determined to succeed in a field where few women can be found.
There were a couple of instances where, later on in the story, something happened that contradicted previous statements. That did grate a bit, but they weren’t story breakers for me; just something that didn’t really jive.
Overall I liked what Jessica Quinn and Mary Winter did with story. The three main characters and the premise were all good. At times, however, it felt as though the authors were trying to do too much in one novel. But this in no way means that I’m not interested in anything further from this writing duo.
Book Teaser: When Red’s threatened by a killer, her lover Daniel can’t fight his attraction to the werewolf police officer assigned to protect her. Jack’s dying for a taste of Red. If they can’t work it out, the tension’s going to leave her vulnerable to the Axeman.

Lycan Lore by Shannon Leigh Reviewed by Kathy K.
Wow! I really enjoy werewolf / Shapeshifter stories and Lycan Lore by Shannon Leigh is no exception. I was entranced by the characters and by the dynamics of the various relationships. I was drooling over Cray from the beginning. There is something very sexy and a tad mysterious about him; even for us who have an idea just who, or what, he is.
Cassandra is a down-to-earth person who’s not inclined to complain; if something needs doing then she does it. I like that she was grounded enough to go with the flow without becoming shrill and argumentative. She certainly wasn’t the type of person to go into histrionics even when everything she knew changed rather dramatically.
There is one particular scene that is rather disturbing, but I think it’s mostly because Shannon Leigh’s descriptive powers really add a touch of realness. All I can say is I’m glad that it’s on the pages of a book and not on a screen… way too much for me otherwise!
When checking out the story I noticed that there is another story following Lycan Lore; am I going to get it? You bet… and sooner rather than later. I don’t want to wait long before I dive back into Ms. Leigh’s world of shapeshifters.
Book Description: Being the tag-along on a camping trip with Heather and Graham is not what Cassandra has in mind for her long weekend. When a tall, dark stranger with staggering green eyes shows up to lend a hand with her tent assembly from Hell, however, she has to rethink her predicament. Despite the mixture of excitement and apprehension he incites with his soul-startling stare, the possibility that she’s just found her brawny Tarzan in the depths of Redwood National Park suddenly doesn’t seem so absurd.

Up On The Housetop by Suzanne Rock Reviewed by Kathy K.
Suzanne Rock is a new-to-me author and I am intrigued enough with her story Up on the Housetop to explore her other books. I enjoy stories about shape-shifters and the struggle to find one’s mate. The romance element in this story was heartfelt, but at times the eroticism threatened to take over the story. How many times can two people have sex in places where they could be discovered at any moment before they move on to wanting some privacy? That’s one thought that kept running through my mind.
While I enjoyed Up on the Housetop, I sometimes felt as though I was on a see-saw and I wanted off! Maybe it was just me, but Chloe’s vacillating between wanting to be with Zach, and wanting to be Daddy’s ‘good little girl’ got me feeling a little seasick. She really had allowed herself to be trapped and it annoyed me that, even knowing this, she would even have second thoughts about escaping.
Zach I could understand much better; I really felt that he was true to himself. I also really felt for him especially with regard to the guilt that he carried.
I’m also thinking that Suzanne Rock has more to come in relation to the pack that took Zach in. If so I’ll certainly be there; she’s really aroused my curiosity regarding Josh and the battle that seems to be brewing.
Book Teaser: Desperate to escape her controlling family, Chloe scrambles up to the roof of her Texas home on Christmas Eve. There she discovers a sexy stranger cloaked in shadow. He convinces her to shed her good-girl image and give into her secret desires.
Book Description: Desperate to escape her controlling family, Chloe Bradford scrambles up to the housetop of her Texas home on Christmas Eve. There she discovers a sexy stranger cloaked in shadow. He convinces her to shed her good-girl image and give into her most secret desires. The man’s low, raspy voice tugs at her memory as much as it awakens her passion. Is he a Christmas miracle, or some figment of her imagination? When he tries to leave, she follows him, eager to learn his identity.
Zach can’t stop thinking about Chloe, or their reunion on the roof. His wolf-half urges him to reveal his identity and claim her, but he doesn’t dare. For both their sakes, he must remain in the shadows until he can control his inner beast’s bursts of rage. After a decade of struggle he thought he could handle his curse, but Chloe’s presence causes his control to slip. As the moon-rages become more frequent, he knows he’s slipping toward the insanity that claims many of his kind. Only Chloe can save him, but he broke her heart over a decade ago. Her forgiveness would be the real Christmas miracle.

Into the Heart 3: Into The Wild by Caitlyn Willows Reviewed by Kathy K.
Into the Heart 3: Into the Wild by Caitlyn Willows is available at Loose Id
Book review: I absolutely love Caitlyn Willows’ Into the Wild. The combination of characters ~ jaguar shifter, calico cat and human ~ was intriguing. What happened to them was unsettling, but as a reader it was astounding and thrilling… oh and did I mention sexy? Rowr!
Cristian, Lupe and Jeremy had been close before the accident, but afterwards what they shared took on a whole new dimension; the connection between the three of them became singular and downright fascinating.
The world in Caitlyn Willows’ Into the Heart series is similar in some ways to others in the genre, but it has a really strong identity all its own. Into the Wild is the third book in the series, yet I found it worked very well as a standalone story. Even so, now that I’ve read this book, I’m very much looking forward to going back to the first two in the series. I had no trouble at all understanding how events in the previous books related to Into the Wild; Ms. Willows did an excellent job incorporating past events into this story.
The story was erotic, yet a tender and loving romance; the characters, while of the paranormal variety, still managed to come across as real, genuine and, for the most part, very likable people. I’m really looking forward to spending time with Caitlyn Willows’ first two books in the series ~ Into the Lair and Into the Night. I’m also wondering if we’re to be treated to other adventures from her Into the Heart series… I certainly hope so!

They’ve bonded as friends, working side by side over the last six months — jaguar shifter, human, and calico cat. Now a freak lab accident bonds Cristían, Jeremy, and Lupe as lovers.
New cat-shifter Lupe knows wishes can come true. Hers made her human and gave her the men she loves. She will defeat anyone who dares threaten her new status and her men.
Jaguar-shifter Jeremy thrills to yet fears his new role, but his relationship with Lupe and Cristían is more than he ever dreamed he could have. But the people trying to kill them, and the mysteries of why, taint it all. Much is unknown, but one thing is not…no one will separate them. No one.
As for Cristían… He’s been blessed with love where he never expected to find it. Now a force from beyond tells him he created a monster only he can destroy. How can he do so knowing it could cost him the two people he loves the most?
The bonds of love and loyalty will lead them to the edge of fear and out into the wild.

Wolf Signs by Vivian Arend Reader Reviewed by Theresa
This book can be purchased though My Bookstore and More on Tuesday March 24, 2009
Wolf Signs has been on my must read list for months. It was well worth the wait, first time author Vivian Arend sure knows how to knock one out of the park! You are going to love book one in the “Granite Lake Wolves” series.
I was thoroughly delighted with Robyn and Keil, I couldn’t help but love them! Vivian gives us an awesome mix of humor, romance and just enough suspense to get the blood flowing. The special gift that Keil and Robyn share as mates gave their romance that little something extra that just made the story all that more enjoyable in my opinion.
This book should be on everyone’s must read list although I may be a bit biased since Vivian is definitely one of my new favorite authors… It doesn’t make the statement any less true! Don’t forget to head over to MBaM on Tuesday March 24, 2009 and download your copy then sit back relax and enjoy a wonderful paranormal romance that will put a smile on your face!

Talk about getting your signals crossed…
Granite Lake Wolves, Book 1
Robyn Maxwell doesn’t care that her brother has to cancel out on their backcountry ski trip. She can do it alone. The fact she’s deaf doesn’t make her survival skills any weaker. The chance to get away from it all and relax in the Yukon wilderness is just what she’s been craving.
Meeting wilderness guide Keil at the cabin starts cravings of another kind. Keil’s one hot hunk of ripped, tasty male. Now she has to deal with raging hormones as well as strange questions about wolves and mates and challenges to the death.
Keil was trying for a nice reflective retreat before challenging for the Alpha position of his Alaskan pack. He wasn’t planning on meeting the woman destined to be his mate, or finding out she’s not aware she has the genes of a wolf.
Between dealing with his accident-prone younger brother, a deaf mate with an attitude and an impending duel to the death, his week—and his bed—is suddenly full.
Far from the relaxing getaway any of them had in mind…
Warning: Gives a whole new meaning to the phrase “talking with your hands”. Includes dangerous use of sarcasm and hot nookie in a remote wilderness sauna.
