Men of Charlestown 2: Yummy Indulgences
By Andi Anderson
Reviewed by Droogie
Yummy Indulgences was a wonderful book and I enjoyed every moment of reading it. It is book two in the Men of Charlestown series, and though it can quite happily be read as a standalone book I recommend reading them in order as character interact in each book and it lets you know a bit more about the wonderful men that inhabit this town.
Ms Anderson converted me as a fan when I first read this book and I have since had to go and purchase the rest of her works. I love Ms Anderson’s writing style, and her characters always seem just like the guys next door.
Shiloh who owns Yummy Indulgences and Allen make such a wonderful couple and their love story is absolutely beautiful. They each held qualities that the other needed to grow and Ms Anderson has done us all a favour by letting us share in their love story even if it was just for a moment in time.
Ms Anderson writing style is easy to read, and I had no problems following along in their lives. Shiloh and Allen grabbed hold of my heart from the very first moment I met them and have still as yet to let go.
I found little to no grammatical errors and if I did it didn’t matter because the story sucked me right in and I forgot everything else until I had finished reading it. I have no hesitations in recommending not only this book but the other books in this series as well.

Shiloh shrugged. “I know we’re taking things one day at a time, but I kinda hoped that we were going to be sleeping together tonight. But I’m okay with having my own room, too.”
Allen chuckled and shook his head. “There is nothing I would like more. I just didn’t want to push you into it.”
Shiloh grinned and had the horrible suspicion he was bouncing. “You’re not pushing me into anything. I want to be with you as much as possible. Is that alright?”

The Severing by D.J. Manly
Reviewed by Droogie
The Severing by D.J. Manly was one of the strangest, and intriguing books that I have ever read. Mr. Manly has done a wonderful job in taking us on a journey into the unknown. I was fascinated from beginning to end.
Mr. manly is an excellent writer and what an imagination. I wish I was half the writer he is. This story was completely different to anything I have ever read before. And his characterisation was brilliant. Everyone was so realistic and multi-dimensional.
This tale was written in such a way that it was easy to follow, and had you guessing right to the end as to who the bad guy was. The tale of Billy Conway afterlife was so well written; I loved how he interacted with both the dead and the still living.
Mr. Manly is definitely someone that I will be looking into for further adventures into his writing. If I had to pick one thing to fault about this book… it would be that it ended… I wanted to keep reading; I wanted to hear more about Terrance and his ghostly companions. I wanted to know if the others found justice. So my plea to Mr manly is please write further stories of those caught within the severing.
The world that Mr. Manly created was realistic and I liked the fact that within this world the characters grew as the storyline progressed. The more you read about them the more you cared what happened to them.
Mr. manly had me reaching for the tissues in parts of this beautifully written tale of the dead. It now has me wondering if this is what the afterlife is going to be like; so well done Mr. Manly. I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending this book as a good read.
The beautiful cover was done by: Reese Dante
I will finish with my favourite lines
Okay, this is like, ah… private. I’ll just sit on the sofa until… until what? Until he comes out, and then what? Am I planning on following the guy everywhere he goes? Well, why not? It passes the time. And the guy does have my life… well… he has my job.

Where The Heart Is
By Elizabeth Silver and Jenny Urban
Reviewed by Theresa
Where The Heart is has everything needed for a hot erotic weekend. One cabin—check. A blizzard—check. No electricity—check. Three hot men—triple check. For a quick erotic read, it works, because the sex was sizzling. Unfortunately, the connection between the characters was not. The “happily ever after,” felt forced and that ruined the story for me. For three friends that have been friends forever to move to lovers and committed partners all in one weekend wasn’t believable. As much as I wanted to just concentrate on the weekend itself, the future was too much a part of the story for me to ignore.
If all you want is an erotic read, Where The Heart Is has that covered but if you want something more meaningful, I’d give this one a pass.

Rhiannon by Neil Plakcy
Reviewed by Eve
A short read in Untreed Reads’ Candlelight Literary Romance line, Rhiannon is terrific. It’s lean and well written. What I liked best was the hero’s the antithesis of romantic, yet this is a wonderful romance. I loved the vulnerability displayed by his love interest, who’s well rounded enough not to be wussy. It was a delicate balance and Mr. Plakcy handled it beautifully.
The story’s set in Miami, in August, and the author put in just enough little details to make me feel I was there with his characters.
I’m now a Neil Plakcy convert and would happily read anything else by him.

The Gentlemen’s Club #1: Point of Beginning by Gale Stanley

This is the first book I have read by Gale Stanley and it won’t by the last. If you love romance this is a must read. The heat and tension between Alex and Jack keeps you reading. I enjoyed the story set in the Gentleman’s Club where all of Jack’s fantasy’s came true. I can’t wait for the next book in this series.

Warrior Camp Book 2: Love’s Indecision by Joyee Flynn
Reviewed By Droogie
Love’s Indecision is a book that if chosen to could be read as a standalone story, yet I express the desire to see everyone read it in the series as the characters from all the books are featured and you get to learn just that much more about them.
I personally had read Book 1 Love’s Deceit first and fell in love with the characters so when I started this book I was so excited when it was the story of the Warrior Matteo Deminguez and the student Nate Hathus.
Ms Flynn takes us on a journey that not only lets us follow Matteo and Nate but we see bits and pieces of the others that you just know will find their own story further down the line.
Ms Flynn has created a world where you crave to be a part of it… where all the characters seem like they are your family… you are happy when they are sad when they are and just wanna slap them when they are being a dumbarse.
I must confess that I am a long time fan of Ms Flynn and have read all of her works that are published. I find her writing style to be refreshing and most often, and especially with this book I felt as though I was sucked right into the story itself.
Love’s Indecision and the rest of the Warrior Camp series are so different from her other works and to me that is the sign of a great writer.
In the story of Nate and Matteo my heart went out to Matteo he really held my heart in thrall. This story goes to show that even big tough men can get hurt and have to work through the pain and heartache that we normal people have to face.
I would have to say that mostly I love the character Rune and will be anxiously waiting for the day when Ms Flynn tells us his tale… I definitely recommend this book and the whole series to everyone. And I will be anxiously waiting for the next book Ms Flynn has published no matter what it is about.
I will end with my favourite lines:
‘I can see the look on your face dude,” Dimitri said as he took a seat in front of my desk. “Yes, you love Nate. It’s written all over your face every time you look at him.”

Jaguar Mate by SA Welsh
Reviewed by Droogie
Ms Welsh has made the tale of destiny and soul mates come full circle… So many times I have read this tale… yet Ms Welsh has truly captured the beauty of not only destined soul mates but the innocence of young love and the trials and tribulations of hiding from what you really want.
The whole idea of the Pack Valley series has me intrigued and I cannot wait for further additions. Jaguar Mate… The story of Kyle and Jay, two young men fated to be together, but before they can get their happily ever after jay has to accept that Kyle is different.
I feel like Ms Welsh, has taken me by the hand and welcomed me to her world. And just like everywhere else not everything is always good… I fell in love with jay from the very first moment through until the end of the story and for everyone out there myself included I hope Ms Welsh soon writes more books in this series, because by the end of the book you really want to know what happens next.
Kyle and Jay had just the right mix of cute and angst to make them believable, and I thought it was great how Kyle had to explain things while the mating heat hit…though I must admit that I wished that Jay would have taken a little longer to become accepting of the changes happening in his life… it just seemed that he accepted everything just a tad too fast. Though I enjoyed the story immensely, and have read it numerous times.
Ms Welsh is one of those authors I found by accident and have since looked up nearly every week to see if there is a new addition to Pack Valley. I recommend this book for everyone; I know you will enjoy it as much as I have.
Ms welsh has made me believe even more those famous words: It can only get better.
I will end with some of Jay’s thoughts:
Obviously smelling his arousal, Kyle turned towards him grinning smugly in a way that left no doubt that his desire was not hidden at all. Damn he was going to have to get used to this. He wasn’t going to think what he’d do when he was around other shifters; he certainly wasn’t going out in public any time soon with his libido having regressed to early horny teen.

Demons Love Cinnamon by Kate Richards
Reviewed by Droogie
Ms Richards tells a wonderful tale of love conquers all… This tale blends the pure and good with the not so good but definitely not evil.
Alessandro is a demon… he is granted passage to earth for one night… and for this gift he is indebted to hell to return with an innocent soul… a soul that would not normally belong to hell.
Gwenny is a human, a witch in service to the Lady Goddess, she is an innocent, and soon to become Alessandro’s payment for his night on earth.
Ms Richards has held our hand and led us through the thoughts as Gwenny goes from not believing to seeing with her own eyes that hell and it’s residents exists. Gwenny also knows that not everything is as it seems… and her belief in all that is good must now save not only her but the man she loves… the man that belongs to her.
This story made me smile the more I got to know Gwenny and Alessandro for they are truly two beautiful characters that deserve only good things. I liked how Ms Richards let us into both Gwenny and Alessandro’s minds to see what they were thinking and feeling. It made me feel like I was on the journey with them in their quest for happiness.
I would definitely recommend this story for others to read, and would love this story to be expanded or made into a series where other demons could be rescued.
This is a story where I read it and went back and read it again, who knew that following a wonderful smell could lead you to your soul mate… I will definitely be reading more work from Ms Richards.
I will end with my favourite lines:
“Funny.”
“What’s funny?” He asked.
“I didn’t know you had a heart. I mean, one that beats like mine.”
“I don’t, not exactly. It’s a little faster, I understand.”

Angel and the Assassin by Fyn Alexander
Reviewed by Kathy K.
The first book that I read by Fyn Alexander, Precious Jade, was amazing, and I found myself lost in the world of BDSM, a world that I knew very little about and, really, had less interest in. It was testament to her writing as well as the ability to evoke strong emotions related to her characters that I found so compelling. So when the opportunity arose to review Angel and the Assassin, it was a no-brainer; imagine my delight—actually the thrill—when I started reading it and I found myself utterly and totally enthralled.
Angel and Kael’s story is far more edgy, detailed, and delves even deeper into the world of BDSM, and yet I could not put the book down… at all. There are some fairly extreme aspects, elements that are not run of the mill and so in this respect I will give a gentle warning. For some people it could well cause some squeamishness, but to be honest, I was still fully engaged. Between Angel and Kael it all works; it’s who they are individually as well as together. It’s not a facet that had me dwelling on what it is; Ms. Alexander makes it a beautiful expression of their feelings and their needs. And I was wholly caught up in the tale.
I think a big part of the attraction—actually attraction is much too tame to describe the extreme sizzle between Kael and Angel—is how meeting Angel completely changed Kael’s life, in just about every way possible. Having a ring-side seat to these developments was fascinating. There is something about being privy to what’s going on in Kael’s mind and heart; can you say intense?
And lest you think that this is all that there is to the story, let me tell you that the suspense relating to Kael’s career choice is also quite intense. All in all, Ms. Alexander did a masterful job of combining all the, rather diverse, elements into one cohesive and thrilling whole.
If you are a fan of the BDSM genre, I highly recommend Fyn Alexander’s Angel and the Assassin. Truly, I cannot fathom that a fan of the genre would not be as captivated as I was. And I will go even further: for those who have ever wondered about the lifestyle—at least fictionally—then in the context of a sexier than hell romance I think that this will appeal to a wide section of readers; I really do.

Tamed by Emily Cale
Reviewed by Eve
Tamed has a great premise. What woman who works her corporate hiney off and has no personal life as a result doesn’t have an escapism fantasy or two? Especially one featuring a hot ‘n hunky cowboy.
For me, Tamed didn’t deliver the goods. The book is peppered with dropped words and spelling errors. The kind Spell Check won’t pick up on. “Utter” is used in place of “udder,” for example. Character’s names switch. Sarah becomes Lucy, and advice given by Jesse is later credited to Mark.
Mostly, I was never able to establish empathy for the female lead. Delia’s a practiced cougar, cruising bars to pick up disposable young men who she can have meaningless sex with then kick out of bed immediately after. She meets the book’s hero and is devastated because he’s got an extensive dating history. I like a strong, independent woman but her double standard had me rolling my eyes. She’s also unforgivably rude to Lucas. For example, he was asked by his employer to help Delia with her luggage. Delia flatly refuses and fires off a “I highly doubt that you are [a] gentleman,” putdown, seconds after meeting him. Her rudeness continues through the book, and she comes on to him at the same time. That kind of manipulation put me off.
While Tamed didn’t work for me, Ms. Cale’s premise reveals a winning imagination. I don’t mean to sound trite but practice makes perfect and I’d like to read something of hers in, say, six months or a year from now and see how her writing has matured.

Assassin’s Pride, Book One: The Cat’s Meow
By Stormy Glenn
Reviewed by Droogie
This is a story that pulled me in from the very first page where innocence meets ruthlessness, and didn’t back down.
Noah Anderson’s OCD style of order in his life drew me towards him in an instant. His compassion and understanding of how things were made my heart tug just that little bit more in his direction.
Gage Tynan is a bad arse and knows he is a bad arse… he sees what has to be done and knows exactly what to do until now. Everything he has ever known about how to take out a target is thrown out the window when Noah Anderson steps into his life.
Ms Glenn has written this story beautifully, this is a story that I am sure will be on many people’s re read lists
Noah’s antics as he faces the knowledge that he is about to cease to exist at the hands of the strange but attractive Gage tell the true story of how kind he really is. He is ok with the dying as long as Gage keeps his promise to take care of his cat Precious.
I found it intriguing watching Gage’s life slowly turn around as he realised that he is not the scariest thing out there. I loved how Noah slowly dragged Gage into the place where Gage was now the protector and not the killer.
Ms Glenn showed that by standing together Noah and Gage were stronger than if they faced their problems alone… By putting aside their initial conflict they banded together to help each other through their own demons.
Gages knowledge that he was meant for better things was an amazing storyline to follow as his understanding of what was happening came to life he manned up and took control… proving not only to himself but us as readers that when fighting for what’s right you have to dig a little deeper… even when what you are fighting for turns out to be a little different and a lot more complicated then what he first thought.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I know that you will too, I can’t wait for the next instalment in this series. I will end with my favourite lines of this story.
“Okay, what should I do now?” Noah asked, his voice sounding low and shaky. “How is this done? Are you gonna shoot me or stab me or something else? What would be easiest for you?”

Book Description: Being in the wrong place at the wrong time is not always a bad thing…
Noah Anderson is odd and he knows it. He has a strong obsessive compulsive disorder that keeps him organized but distances him from the world around him. He doesn’t have any friends, family, or even a lover. He’s never had a lover.
When he finds himself in the wrong place at the right time, Noah discovers that the dangers posed by having sex for the first time pale in comparison to having sex with the assassin that comes to kill him, even if it means his life.
Gage Tynan is a killer. It’s what he’s always been. And he excelled at his job until he jumped into the car of a passing motorist when his latest mission goes wrong. The man driving is so odd that Gage suspects he might have been sent to harm him. Gage has no idea that the little man that asks him to take his cat will change his life in ways he has no clue of.
Gage is dragged into a world of shifters and exiled kings, one where his strength will be called upon to keep Noah safe from the pride soldiers sent to keep him from taking the throne.

Any Given Sunday by Mari Carr
Reviewed by Eve
Number seven in Mari Carr’s Wild Irish series, Any Given Sunday delivers the goods in erotica and romance. The three protagonists are all about the angst, longing and big secret they each hide from the others. If internal turmoil is your thing, Any Given Sunday will definitely wow you. It’s a nicely wrapped up exploration of the emotional risks people who lie about their yearnings take. The fact that two of those principal characters are Psychology PhD candidates, parallels this nicely.
That said, if you like external conflict in your read, you won’t find it here. It’s alluded to, characters sweat over it, but it never goes anywhere.
The story flows well. The first half of the book was a little too angsty for my taste, but that’s just me. And that angst? It was perfectly believable and well done. Ms. Carr let us inside the heads of each main protagonist, which I loved, and there was never a moment’s confusion about who was speaking. This was especially important because I was using my e-reader and, with my eyesight, have to bump up the font size. That mixes up some of the line breaks.
Although part of a long series, Any Given Sunday stands well on its own. It might even intrigue you enough to read the other books in the series.

I became quite the fan of Sloan Parker with the release of her first novel, More, which had me totally captivated, so reading Breathe was a must. I can tell you that Ms. Parker has grabbed my attention yet again. Breathe is a bittersweet novel that had me in tears. I will admit the story started out a bit slow for me—the first chapter or two didn’t draw me in as quickly as I might have liked—but it was well worth it to keep turning the pages. I was soon sitting on the edge of my seat, wondering what would happen next. I haven’t read too many books that kept me guessing until the very end but Ms. Parker did just that. Breathe is full of mystery, suspense and hot sex. And fair warning, Breathe is full-box-of-Kleenex type of story.

Choice of Masters by Joey W. Hill
Reviewed by Eve
Although I’m a huge Joey W. Hill fan, Choice Of Masters didn’t float my boat. Part of that might have had to do with the book originally being released in 2003. Things like references to sharp objects being inserted into women’s bodies creeped me out (to put it mildly), and simply aren’t referenced in today’s romance novels.
All the characters’ speech was pseudo-medieval and it was so thick it got annoying after awhile. For me, it seemed to take forever for the author to get around to explaining exactly what was what and after the half-way point in the novel, I was skimming pages. The novel’s non-stop sex and, even for me, it stopped holding my attention.
Fortunately, we Joey W. Hill fans know she’s gone on to much bigger and better things. I still love her writing, just not this particular example.

Marie Harte’s The Lost Locket (a Power Up story)
By Marie Harte
Reviewed by Kathy K.
When I realised that The Lost Locket is connected, albeit somewhat loosely, to Marie Harte’s Dawn Endeavor series—and it was Keegan’s name that clued me in—I knew I had to read it. I loved the four Dawn Endeavor books, and my interest in Keegan stemmed from, in particular, the last book—Gunnar’s Game. So it was nice to get to know him… and boy did we get to know him!
Of course, getting to know Keegan entailed becoming much better acquainted with James Foreman and that was no hardship either, but rather a delight. With Keegan and James it wasn’t just them—sexy as they are—but it was their friendship, the easy camaraderie they had that I found so wonderful… although, yeah, the sexy quotient blew the roof off too.
Discovering that James has had serious romantic feelings for Keegan just upped the extreme like factor for me. And once Keegan admitted to himself that his feelings for James exceeded the label of ‘just friend’… well, that was just plain awesome. Added to that was Keegan’s acceptance that he was also sexually interested in his best friend.
In this, too, did Marie Harte’s talent come to the fore: it was a shock, or at least a very big surprise, to Keegan that he was actually was attracted to a man, but he didn’t go all weird over it. The realistic aspect of Keegan’s and James’s relationship change was absolutely perfect. There was no huge angsty buildup, nor any facile acceptance—it just worked, and worked well.
As for the sexual tension as well as the hot and steamy lovin’ between Keegan and Price, may I just say… yowza! It was sexier than hell, but it was also a lot more than just the physical that was so danged hot. And I honestly did not think that it could get any better, but I was so wrong.
I didn’t know how Harte was going to successfully add Rory to the mix; I loved the straight—so to speak—man on man action; add a woman to that? Well, I should have known that, if anyone can do it, it would definitely be Marie Harte, and do it… well, Keegan, James and Rory did it and it nearly shorted out the circuits on my ereader. *grin* But it was much, more than sexual, it was the emotional connection as well as the psychic one that blew me away; combined, it was off the charts.
As for the psychic element in the story, well I loved all that Marie Harte did in the Dawn Endeavor books and, while different than the Circs, the Power Up! team is extremely fascinating. Now with The Lost Locket, Marie Harte has started me on yet another series for which I’ll be waiting impatiently as each book is released. I just hope I won’t have to wait too long… pretty please?

Book Description: A casualty of funding wars and an overzealous Defense Department trying to clean up its reputation after several failed experimental programs, the Psychic Warfare Program (PWP) is scrapped in the throes of its infancy. Its participants are transferred to other defense agencies, but a few decide to leave the government behind, knowing full well their freedom hinges on keeping a low profile and living under the radar.
Life on the outside isn’t easy. Without the constant physical, mental and psychic training they’ve become accustomed to, many of the PWPs best break down, losing control of their abilities and their minds. Returning to Uncle Sam’s open arms seems like their only viable option, until one of their own comes up with an idea that just might work… And the Power Up! Gym is born. Trainers, weights and fitness by day, psychic training and investigative work by night.
Ex-PWP agent Keegan Price likes beer, sex, and relaxing after a hard day’s work. He’s looking forward to exercising his telekinetic skills on a real case. Finding a lost locket seems almost too easy, but hey, it’s a job away from the civilian world. When James Foreman tags along, so much the better. Foreman’s a wiseass who loves a good time, and his ability to manipulate fire with a snap comes in handy. Keegan knows they’re overqualified for this simple retrieval, but he figures he and James have earned a working vacation after spending so many hours in that damned gym. Except the case turns out to be anything but simple. The locket’s a weapon, he and James can’t take their eyes off the woman wearing it, and their spiraling sexual attraction for each other and her makes for one hell of a ride.

A Man After Midnight by Beth D. Carter
Reviewed by Sasha
A Man After Midnight is your typical weekend getaway fling that most people hope and foolishly pray that it turns into something much more meaningful. The connection between both characters works well for this story it is instant and hot. Almost right from the start the passion and heat ignites and we find both our leading characters in mattress heaven. Both characters are sincere caring people but lack a bit of fire. I’m not talking about in the bedroom because that fire they have. I’m talking about the chemistry and fire between both as people. To me this story has a lot of sexual chemistry and not enough of a true connection. I guess that’s why this story seems so real because as in life when weekend getaway flings do occur it is usually purely just sexual.

Ride Along by A. Campbell
Reviewed by Eve
Ms. Campbell has another thigh tingler with The Ride Along. The story’s quick (and not just because it’s only fifteen pages long), lean and hot as all get out.
What I found especially interesting is we’re given no physical description of the heroine. No age, coloring, height…nothing. That worked for me. I like to tell myself I’ve got a pretty good imagination and I like to bring some of that to everything I read. The Ride Along made it easy for me to imagine myself in the hunky cop’s arms and…well, I’m sure you get the drift.
If you’re in the mood for a quickie with a reliable tingle factor, give The Ride Along a read. You won’t be disappointed.

By Your Side by Willa Okati
Reviewed by Kathy K.
Willa Okati’s By Your Side is magic. There’s something very appealing to the romantic in me that Roman, even at the age of eighteen, knew he loved Matthieu; that this is the man he’s in love with. But then if there’s one thing I could tell about this young man is he really knows his own mind. He recognizes in Matthieu that someone so many people long for; he’s also not shy about making the first move. I think that this is testament to his ability to know people; he certainly understands what is going on in the older man’s head.
Matthieu is, surprisingly to me, somewhat harder to pin down. I do understand his reluctance to stay with Roman; he really cannot believe that someone so young can be so sure of what he wants. There’s also an element, not of fear per se, but of self-protection in his actions. His feelings for Roman already are entrenched in his heart but he’s not ready to open himself up to the possibility of rejection.
The story spans seven years, but in one large leap. And I like that not only is it Roman and Matthieu who must come to terms with the separation, but Matthieu had also stayed away from the only family he has left, his sister and her husband. But it’s her need that brings him back to the lake, and back into the orbit of Roman.
Once again Willa Okati brings to her readers a sweet and very touching tale that satisfies not only the romantic, but also fans of hot and sexy man-on-man lovin’; what a treat!

Book Description: Seven years ago, during a sultry summer by a lake, Matthieu fell in love with a man fifteen years his junior. Intelligent, passionate and talented, Roman swore he wanted nothing more than to settle down with Matthieu for the rest of his life. Matthieu couldn’t let that happen. The way he saw it, Roman had too much talent to waste with a small life and small dreams. He tried to do the right thing by severing all ties with the young man who commanded his passion, hoping that one day Roman would forgive and forget him.
That was never going to happen.
Roman has always known exactly who and what he wants — who he loves. Now that he’s found Matthieu again, Roman’s willing to do anything it takes to prove it. He’ll use his body, his music, and all his wiles to show the older man that their love is as real as their passion, and that they are meant to be together. Matthieu isn’t easily convinced, but Roman isn’t easily bested. He’s never been good at taking “no” for an answer — especially when he knows his partner well enough to be sure what he really wants to say is yes, yes, yes.

Demon Heart by Nicole Dennis
Reviewed by Eve
The premise of Demon Heart is terrific. What woman wouldn’t want to have a gorgeous, naked, talented sex slave show up on her back step? For the most part, it’s a good story. Unfortunately, for me, there were some flaws in the story telling that pulled me out of the narrative.
At the beginning, there’s some uneven punctuation which I found distracting. Although once I got used to it, I stopped noticing it. The voice of Constance, the modern-day heroine is established early but changes after the narrative switches over to the 4,000 year old male hero’s voice for awhile. After, she sounds far too much like him. Maybe if they’d been together a long time, sure, but they’d been together only half a day. Secondary, paranormal characters pop up in ways that, for me,
felt clumsy and had me shaking my head, unable to recapture my suspension of disbelief.
The ending left me hanging a bit. Still, it was a happily ever after and I love those. Demon Heart was a nice enough read. Not terrific but nice enough.

Make Me, Sir by Cherise Sinclair

Make Me, Sir is the fifth installment of Cherise Sinclair’s, Shadowlands series and the first book of Mrs. Sinclair’s that I have read and let me tell you I would have not noticed if it did belong to a series, this book is deliciously written and can stand on it’s own two feet. I enjoyed the way the relationship develops between Gabrielle and Marcus it wasn’t rushed even though the time within the story line is short. Make me, Sir is an easy read that flows smoothly. Marcus and Gabrielle characters were meant for one another they both are spunky, strong minded, loving caring people who would do anything to help the people they love the most.
I liked the story as a whole it was witty, suspenseful, mysterious, loving, kept me on the edge and the sex was hot and steamy. I Can’t wait for the next book in Sinclair’s Shadowlands because I am very curious to find out who is this mysterious man behind the scene snatching up all these women. Will Gabrielle and Marcus be a part of ruining this sicko.

Book Description: Her job is to make his life miserable. His job is to make her submit. Whose heart will surrender first?
Across the country, rebellious BDSM submissives are being systematically kidnapped, one from each club. When her friend falls prey to the slavers, FBI victim specialist Gabrielle volunteers to be bait in a club not yet hit: the Shadowlands.
She finds that being a bratty sub comes naturally, especially when she gets to twit the appallingly conservative Master of the trainees. But she soon discovers he’s not as stuffy as she’d thought. Or as mean. She’d expected punishment, even humiliation, but she sure never expected to fall in love with a damned lawyer.
Courtesy of a prima donna ex-wife, Marcus loathes disobedient submissives. When the club owner insists he admit an incredibly bratty trainee, he’s furious. But as he comes to know Gabrielle and sees the alluring sweetness beneath the sass, he starts to fall for her.
Unfortunately, Marcus isn’t the only one who believes the feisty redhead is a prize worth capturing. And in the world of the slaver, such treasure is worth a hefty fee.

The Robber Wife by Verona St. James
Reviewed by Eve
I liked The Robber Wife. It’s a short, yet satisfying read. The pacing is terrific and Ms. St. James rolls the conflict out nicely. I found the story unique. The ending left me hanging but that was because I wanted to find out more about the characters and how their story would play out. It’s only eighteen pages though so I’ve got to expect some limits on the scope of the book. The only thing that put me off was, during the sex scene, just about every sentence started with a pronoun (she, his, their). I would have liked a little more variety in the narrative.
The banter between the protagonists is very good so if you’re into intelligent characters, you’ll enjoy The Robber Wife

Genetic Attraction by Tara Lain
Reviewed by Eve
Ms. Lain shows a deft hand for love scenes in Genetic Attraction. They had me happily squirming in my seat.
That said, a few of the plot elements didn’t work for me. The premise that the University Em works at will fire her for dating a hunky male model who’s twelve years younger than her, dissolved my suspension of disbelief. This being the new Millennia, I couldn’t buy into the premise, especially considering Em’s their superstar researcher. Same with the second big conflict—her research assistant has to hide his gay lover. Not just be discreet, but hide him like he’s a dirty secret.
I was initially put off by her research assistant. Of course, that allowed him stupendous character growth. For two years, Jake’s been in love with Em from afar, discussing her with such devotion that his live-in male lover falls in love with her by proxy. Problem is, Jake designs and builds a house for her. For me, that part of the story crossed the line into creepy stalker territory. Yes it was terribly romantic and all but, still, creepy. His reaction to her initial rejection of the let’s-live-together bombshell is childish petulance. Again, that’s a set-up for great, personal growth.
Bottom line? Genetic Attraction kept me interested enough to read it through to the end. The Roan Black character is loving, generous and kept me turning the pages…and not just because of his physical beauty.

Desert Run by Marshall Thornton
Reviewed by Kathy K.
I’ve been long awaiting an opportunity to read one of Marshall Thornton’s books and when Desert Run became available I snapped it up. I am very happy I did so because the book was much, much more than I hoped. What a rush!
There’s an edge to Desert Run that I hadn’t really expected, which is rather odd when you think about it—there are mobsters out for vengeance for cryin’ out loud! Maybe it’s that it didn’t come from the direction I had thought it would. What this says to me is that Mr Thornton has a rather serpentine mind. But whatever it is, suffice it to say that I was totally enthralled throughout the book. And while I was glad that book was only 189 pages—so I could read it quicker—I was also sad when I came to the end. Well, not sad, just feeling as though I’d had to leave a good friend sooner than I would have wanted to.
The characters, especially Don and Harlan, were awesome. Don was rather an enigma, understandably so, especially in light of later events. From the very beginning I couldn’t get a reading on him, on who he was, what he wanted. And even though we were told a bit about him in the blurb, I just couldn’t find that in him. I like mysteries and Don is very much that. The way that Mr. Thornton draws his personality out as the story progresses is very nicely done. And it makes perfect sense; Don’s been hiding who he is for a long time.
Harlan is adorable! Well, he’s more than that ‘cause he is a man grown, but there’s an innocence vying with cynicism in this young man… and that’s enough to tick me off. Not that it’s there, but that Harlan has had to develop it. I think that the contradiction in Harlan what Don responds to, probably because he lost a lot of his innocence too at a young age, but for different reasons. Even so, I think it’s this initial connection that Don feels that is the key to him opening up to the attraction that he has for Harlan.
Desert Run is a fantastic story and one that I will enjoy again. I’ve also made a note to move up the reading queue Marshall Thornton’s Nick Nowak mysteries that are in my TBR. After finally discovering the wonderful storytelling of the author, I’m now thinking two things: Why did it take me so long!?! And I hope that he has a very long backlist!

The Immortals by Victor J. Banis
Reviewed by Kathy K.
The Immortals is not quite the story I expected…at least not going by title alone. But having read it I have to say that I really like the way that the story and title fit.
After having read the story description I had an idea of how the book would end, and I was right…mostly. But it was the journey that really makes this more than just a romance, and far more than is alluded to in the blurb. The main focus I found was the growth in Jason’s character and I enjoyed the way that Mr. Banis works it. But, as usual, Mr. Banis has a surprise lurking in the wings and I found myself feeling things for Peter that I hadn’t expected. For me, at least, he wasn’t just a negligible character; there was something there that had me caring for him and, frankly, that startled me. I had just assumed that it would be Jason and Alders who would garner all my attention.
Like many stories by Victor Banis that I’ve read, the treasure inside is wrapped in plain brown paper. It may not look like much, but upon opening you realise just how intricately it is wrought. And so is his latest offering, The Immortals.

But there is much more to Peter’s father than his funny face. Soon, Jason comes to appreciate that brains, as well as passion and masculine energy, can be sexy, too.
