Ugly Naked People by Giselle Renarde
Reviewed by Justine
Ugly Naked People offers a brief glimpse in the troubled relationship of its main characters. Rave – accepting of others, herself as a lesbian and her love for a woman, Astrid, was fully developed even in these too brief pages. Astrid – embarrassed by public displays of affection from her lover, hiding her relationship from her mother is unaware of her own self loathing. She captivated me. I wanted to know how these two opposites came together. I wanted to know what event occurred which causes Astrid to spiral down the self destructive path of not eating. For me the best stories either wrap everything up into a neat package or are those that leave me wanting more. After reading Ugly Naked People I wanted more. In this case, that’s a good thing!

Book Description: Rave is concerned about her girlfriend Astrid’s rapidly declining weight and health. As Astrid’s eating disorder begins to take its toll on the couple’s relationship, Rave hopes that a dramatic move on her part will save both Astrid and the future they could have together.
We hope that people enjoy reading the work, but also take a bit of hope to those who may be suffering under similar circumstances.

Dinner Delights by Berengaria Brown
Reviewed by Justine
My two favorite plot lines are when friends become lovers and when the ordinary sized woman gets her man. Dinner Delights serves up both when co-workers finally acknowledge their attraction for each other; put their friendship on the line; and go for it! I loved the interaction between the main characters. From the appetizer of acknowledging the attraction, the entrée of the heated rush of that first frantic sex, followed by the leisurely and playful second helping of sexual discovery, Ms. Brown brings truth and humour to this small repast. Dinner Delights was …well…. delightful from beginning to end but far too short for my taste. I definitely wanted a larger portion.

Finally, My Love by Kate Richards
Reviewed by Justine
I smiled throughout my reading of “Finally, My Love”. Amelia Stacker and John Quincy were definitely two characters I could relate to, having found my own soul mate via the world wide web. My heart pounded from the opening scenes while Amelia waited for her on-line love to greet her face to face for the very first time. I felt and remembered the nervous tension of that first encounter and how wonderful it felt to be in the arms of someone you’ve grown to love. The heart felt emotion of the initial meeting, brief social awkwardness trying to ‘just be’ in an unusual situation and Amelia’s uncertainty was endearing and hit the mark. The characters first sexual encounter was funny and passionate, though maybe a tad over the top. The situation though fit the tone of Ms. Richards’ work and by no means detracts from the story. Katie Richards is on my radar now. I look forward to reading more of her work.
