Wooing Master Jones by Amber Kell
Part of the Perfect Strangers Collection at ARe
Reviewed by Theresa

The most romantic bit of wooing I’ve read in awhile, you’ll fall in love with Stephen and Victor as quickly as they do each other, I know I did.  Amber Kell treats us to a uniquely written tale that turns the tables on the normal getting to know you stage in a new Master/Sub relationship and will leave you begging for more. Love at first sight has never been so much fun to watch/read about as it is in Wooing Master Jones.

I have never been disappointed in an Amber Kell novel and Wooing Master Jones is no different a definite must read for all Amber Kell fans and great introduction for first timers.

Book Description: Everyone needs a little romance…

When artist Stephen Carter catches a glimpse of Master Jones on the security monitors of his brother’s BDSM club he’s entranced. A hastily drawn sketch manages to capture the Dom’s high cheekbones, square jaw, and hot, hard body. A body the quiet, reclusive Stephen would love to explore.

The subs who fall for Victor Jones always get hurt. He has no desire to enter into a committed relationship and no room in his life for romantic entanglements. But then the seasoned Dom starts to receive intriguing gifts from a secret admirer. When Victor discovers his admirer is Stephen, he decides maybe it’s time to try out something new, someone less experienced.

What will happen when Master Jones discovers that sometimes even he has to do a little wooing?

One Perfect Night by Bella Andre
Part of the Perfect Strangers Collection at ARe
Reviewed by Kathy K.

I’ve been a fan of Bella Andre’s for a few years; unfortunately I haven’t been keeping up with her new releases and that’s about to change in short order!

One Perfect Night is a sublime Valentine treat. Yes, the romance moves along at the speed of light, but there is something substantive behind it.

With Noah it’s not lust at first sight, although that does play a role; for him it’s that moment of instant, hit-you-between-the-eyes realisation that this, this is the one for him. I love that he knew that Colbie was his and, consequently, he would do anything and everything in his power to make her see that their instantaneous connection was much more than hormones.

And Colbie, especially once we get to know her better, has never, deep down, been convinced that there was someone for her. Wishes and hopes she had aplenty. But her experiences were a different matter altogether. I could feel the sense of hopelessness and of loss that was all she had, because I’d been there myself.

What I did especially love about Ms. Andre’s heroine is that she actually did something about it, and that makes all the difference.

Noah and Colbie’s romance is a sweet confection for the year’s most romantic day and it’s one that brought a sigh of satisfaction as well as a smile to this reader’s day.

Book Description: Can he convince her they are destined to be together in one perfect night?

One touch… One kiss
The first time Noah Bryant meets Colbie Michaels they collide at the top of a snowy mountain in California and sparks fly. Swamped by sudden emotion – and a desire she can’t control – Colbie panics. Before he can get her phone number or last name, she’s gone. When they serendipitously meet again in Seattle one week later, Noah is certain Colbie is his destiny, and he can’t make the mistake of losing her again.

One night… One forever love
Colbie wants to believe in a happily-ever-after, but experience tells her falling for Noah is more likely to lead to a broken heart. But how can she resist him as he sets out to prove that they’re destined to be together? Especially when he’s intent on fulfilling every last one of her secret desires and he’s willing to keep proving it to her every day…and every sweet and sinful night.

Opposites Distract by Stephani Hecht
Part of the Perfect Strangers Collection from ARe
Reviewed by Kathy K.

Short, short story but wow! This is a Valentine romance with so much heart it left mine celebrating.

Once again this is an author whose books are languishing in my TBR. I’ve always heard such good things about Stephani Hecht’s writing that I’d bought a few of her books. Now that I know everything was right on—and I’ve had a taste—I’m going to be indulging: But back to Opposites Distract. J

I think one of the things I love best about this story is that Pryce’s ideas of Mr. Right are completely turned on their head when he sees Clayton and honestly, we may *think* we know who that special someone will be, but the reality always has a surprise or two in store for us. It’s up to us to decide whether or not we can give up the ideal we’ve built in our minds.  Pryce, thankfully, doesn’t waste a moment.

Clayton’s reaction, however, is another story altogether and really it’s hard to blame him. Part of it is, I believe, his self-image; but the rest is very likely due to his past experiences. Finding love can often be anything but easy…but then we’re more likely to appreciate it when the real thing comes along. And for Clayton and Pryce, this is the real thing.

One thing that intrigued me is that Pryce—ostensibly nothing more than a party boy—is much more than appearances would lead one to believe. Of course all you have to do is remember that he has responsibilities that he is living up to…and sometimes we are all too quick to judge based on appearances alone.

So not only is Opposites Distract a charming and very romantic tale wonderfully suited for Valentine’s Day, but it’s got a lesson there that is one we can never hear too much. And for that I heartily recommend this latest from Stephani Hecht.  Sweet and smart…excellent combination!

Book Description: Sometimes your heart doesn’t know what’s best for you…

Pryce has always been attracted to a certain type of man. What he’s looking for in Mr. Right is someone like him; fun, spontaneous and full of life. What he doesn’t want is a stuffy, boring man who only cares about being an activist and making the world a better place. But that doesn’t stop Pryce from falling for a dark-haired stranger when they bump into each other at the local GBLT center.

Clayton needs to stay focused on school and work. He doesn’t have room in his life for distractions. So when a cute, carefree blond makes a move on him, Clayton turns the guy down flat. But walking away turns out to be harder than he thinks. Clayton, driven to distraction, can’t get Pryce out of his mind.

Will Clayton be able to push aside his doubts long enough to give love, and Pryce, a chance?

Anything Goes Book 1: Lust & Fae by Joyee Flynn
Reviewed by Theresa

I love paranormal romances and Joyee Flynn’s are among my favorites. Lust and Fae is the first in a new series, Anything Goes, and it starts off with a bang.

Ms. Flynn weaves an erotically intriguing tale with the creation of lust demons and Gabe the virgin Fae. I’m a sucker for a man in distress and his savior and Gabe and Cal are exactly that. Cal is a hundreds-of-years–old, lonely lust demon and when he meets Gabe, he develops some very protective feelings he hasn’t experienced before.  This leads to romance with moments of humor that drew me in.

Lust and Fae delves into an area that some might find unrealistic or disturbing but I have found I really enjoy and actively look for similar stories. In fear of giving too much of the story away, I am just going to say that Lust and Fae is a paranormal romance with a twist that I encourage any paranormal fan to read.

Book Description: Cal has been alone all his life. After all, lust demons aren’t known for their ability to fall in love. For centuries, he’s used his gifts to help others find the happy ending he felt he would never have. When a virgin fae, Gabe, walks into his club, Cal is immediately struck by the little sprite’s good looks. Knowing the fae’s natural magnetism could ignite a riot, Cal immediately rushes Gabe out of the club, only to find out he was sent to be Cal’s mate. But Gabe is in trouble. The evil halfers seek fae essence to become human. Knowing Gabe is in danger sets off every protective instinct within Cal. Can a lust demon defy convention and find his happy ending with an innocent fae?

Commanding Acquisitions by Christine d’Abo
Reviewed by Theresa

Commanding Acquisitions by Christine d’Abo is part of the 1-800-DOM-Help series from Ellora’s Cave. I thought this one started out a little more lighthearted than the first, but it was no less emotional. The story is a contemporary with just a touch of the mystical surrounding the origins of Club Unfettered and 1-800-DOM-Help.

When Simon calls 1-800-DOM-Help, it is originally to make sure it isn’t scam – or so he tells himself. I had to laugh when he finally asks, “Don’t suppose you can find me a sub with a business degree? I’m having business issues too.” Simon was admitting, not only to himself but to someone else, that he was lonely and needed help. It was at that point Ms. D’Abo had me hooked. I love a man who isn’t afraid to admit what he needs. The BDSM is not too intense. Simon is a strict but gentle Dom. He and Gavin are made for each other but before they can live happily ever after, Gavin has to work though a few issues of his own.

Commanding Acquisitions was a fast read at ninety-six pages. If you enjoy BDSM you’ll enjoy this title.

Sugarplum #5: Just Wink by Bryl R. Tyne
Reviewed by Kathy K.

Just going by the title I had completely different expectations for this story. The fact that it was written by one of my favourite authors—Bryl Tyne—assured me that regardless of how it came about, it was going to be one that I enjoyed.  Not only did I really like it, but I was utterly charmed by Parker and Jeremy.

Parker is having a very difficult time with his not-going-anywhere career and his spirits are extremely low. With Christmas right around the corner, which can be a very stressful time anyway, it doesn’t help that he feels that he’s letting his husband down. I also get the feeling that Parker is one of those who tend to brood. Add all these elements together and you’ve got a man who’s not only on the edge but on the verge of going over.

Enter Jeremy. A quieter person I don’t think I’ve ever come across, but his love and support for Parker flows from the pages. I love that his first action is to enfold Parker with all that he feels for his love. He also understands his man and knows just what to do to bring him back to level ground. The scene between them is not only very sexy but heartwarming to the core.

Sugarplum: Just Wink is a story filled not only with the magic of the season, but also the beauty of total and all-encompassing love. In conjunction with the attendant strength, tenderness and calmness of Jeremy’s devotion, there was Parker’s reaction. The emotions between the two men are truly indicative of the power their feelings bring forth. And who knew that the influence of just a wink was so all-encompassing?

Bryl Tyne of course, and now so do I.  Beautiful.

Book Description: How hard could donning a Christmassy green Speedo and pretending for thirty seconds to savor a giant candy cane be, anyway? Granted, Parker abhors candy canes and his co-actor is a lecherous Santa wannabe with grubby paws, but can’t the man just call the commercial a rap, take his money, and go home to his husband for the holidays?

Is that too much to ask?

Is it too much to ask Parker to be home on time when it’s his night to cook?

Never fear, his husband Jeremy’s got the solution. A new bedroom technique designed to encourage creativity may bring about the visualization skills Parker needs to save his acting career and his marriage.

“What haven’t I made clear? Desire. Ecstasy. Satisfaction. In that order!”

Dawn Endeavor 4: Gunnar’s Game by Marie Harte
Reviewed by Kathy K.

Of the four Dawn Endeavor members, Gunnar Tersch was the most difficult to get to know. He was certainly the most guarded of the teammates. But as we got to know more about him it became easier to understand why it was so…and my heart broke for him.  That wasn’t a reaction that I expected to be honest. But once we knew more about his need to be controlled so much became clearer. And it wasn’t so much his Circ beast that frightened him when it came to Ava, but his Berserker. Honestly the combination of Circ and Berserker were…Wow!! That was just the icing on the cake!

As far as Ava was concerned though, he really didn’t have to worry because Ava is more than able to take care of herself…as she proves to Gunnar. In fact, she was quite devious and I loved watching as she turned Gunnar on his head until the poor man didn’t know which way was up…or where to go. Whichever way he tried to go she was there because Ava was definitely not going to let him go.

Wow! Between his beast and his

I really enjoyed the tying up of the ends; the time spent with the Dawn Endeavor team was extraordinarily steamy. There was, however, much more than just hot man / Circ sex. There is also an unbreakable thread of friendship that pervaded the entire series. And as each story was shared, we learned that what these men shared went way beyond the definition of friends. The four men—Fallon, Hiroshi, Julian and Gunnar—were incredibly close since they were SEALs. I think that’s partly why they were such a successful Circ team. They already knew each other and had bonded. Their change to Circ was just one more thing that tied them together.  And it really didn’t hurt that their beasts needed lots and lots of together time…*grin*

But the team was more than just the four men; as each man found his mate the dynamics changed, definitely for the better. Then there’s Mrs. Sharpe; whoa there’s NO putting anything over on her. But the thing I loved best about Marie Harte’s Dawn Endeavor series? They’re not only sexy, but loyal, true, honest and together they are all family and I loved the opportunity to get to know them.

Book Teaser: It’s time Ava claimed her mate. The Viking won’t fall easily, so she won’t play fair. When it comes to love, she’ll leave nothing to chance. Conquering his heart is a game worth winning, and Ava’s playing for keeps.

Book Description:  Genetic manipulation has crated the first super soldier, the Circ. The second generation of Circs, able to transform into hulking, inhuman beasts at will and psychically gifted is much more dangerous than the first. Under Project Dawn Endeavor, the secret four-man team belongs to the mysterious Mrs. Sharpe who is bent on cleaning up science gone wrong around the globe on behalf of the United States government. But there’s more to her agenda than patriotism. If only the team knew what she really had planned.

Gunnar Tersch has never met a man he couldn’t defeat. There’s no one stronger than his Viking come to life, and he knows it. When the team needs an extra push, he unleashes the berserker inside him and clears a path through the enemy. Except lately, it’s all he can do to control the monster within. It’s worse since he knows the truth about Ava, the woman his beast, his berserker, and Gunnar, the man, want to claim as mate. Yet Gunnar can barely say the word “love’ without sneering.

A tragic event in his past has assured him he’s not a safe man to be around: the violence that rages inside him can too easily hurt those he loves. But Ava won’t keep her distance, convinced she can trick him into loving her. Too late, because he already does, though he has no plans to act on his feelings. Soon Gunnar has more to worry about than the crafty beauty, because there’s deceit at the heart of their team. Only by trusting in himself and his feelings can Gunnar help avert the end of Dawn Endeavor and all he holds dear.

Midnight Playground by Eliza Gayle
Reviewed by Meav

Midnight Playground is a ménage a trois, BDSM, Master(s)/slave, hot men/curvy woman fantasy!  I enjoyed that this story took place in a photography studio that specialized in BDSM and extreme photos because I had never read a book in this type of setting; it added some real spice and eroticism to the story.  Add in a vulnerable curvy redhead (I love stories with “real figure” women!), two alpha mega-hot men, leather pants (ahem, total personal preference), and what you have is a story that totally delivers on the steam-up-your-reading-glasses meter!!!

But (and I hate that I had to had a “but” in here), as the reader, I did not feel any intimate connection between Eve, Chase, and Murphy.  As you read this review, please don’t get intimacy confused with “chemistry”.  There was plenty of chemistry; this story overflowed with it!  However, when I finish reading a book, and if the author ends the story leaving the reader to believe the characters will remain together, I like to be able to imagine that yes, these characters will be together forever.  Mainly because they have that intangible, intimate connection that bonds them.  That’s what was missing for me; that intangible intimate connection.  If Eve, Murphy, and Chase stay together, I was left believing it would be because of a sexual connection and provided Eve remains…well…obedient.  For me, as the story progressed, I became less personally invested in the characters.

Now, if you want to read a steamy and sexy story and if you could take or leave that “happily-ever-after” feeling when you finish a book, Midnight Playground is perfect for you.  Even hard core BDSM fans will be satisfied with this book.  I won’t spoil it, but the title Midnight Playground definitely is a scene in the book and any BDSM fan will love it.  Also, regardless if you are a reader who likes that warm and fuzzy feeling at the end of a book, I would recommend readers give Midnight Playground a read if for no other reason that readers will definitely find that Midnight Playground is well written and attention grabbing.

Book description: Eva’s desperate denial only means one thing…she has a lot to learn.

Eve Blake has been working at Altered Ego, a studio specializing in fetish photography, for three months when a custom order comes in for a plus-sized redhead. Ready for an adventure, she volunteers for the job. Chase, her boss, reluctantly accepts. Maybe pretending to be a sexual slave for Chase’s camera will get her one step closer to the two men she thinks can satisfy even her darkest needs.

Chase can’t believe he’s agreed to this deal. The cardinal rule in any business is not to get involved with your employees and that includes your sexy receptionist. He and his partner Murphy learned that lesson the hard way. Now Chase has a hunch the first time they touch their rope to Eve’s creamy flesh, there will be no turning back. They’ll have to have her.

One shoot leads to another and Eve finds herself at a playground at midnight. When the scene takes a dark turn, Eve sinks deeper into sensation at the hands of two masters who push for her ultimate surrender. Friday Night Jamie by Bren Christopher
Reviewed by Theresa

Bren Christopher has written a romantic suspense that kept me so involved I didn’t put the book down until I hit the last word and then I still didn’t want to put it down. Not because the author left me hanging, but because I had become so attached to the characters I just wasn’t ready to let them go. I fell in love with both Jamie and Matt. Jamie has this image of how he wants his life and who he wants in it so it isn’t easy to let that image go. Matt is a man who knows what he wants and isn’t afraid to go after Jamie and then protect him, even if he has to protect Jamie from himself.

Friday Night Jamie was my introduction to author Bren Christopher and I sincerely hope this title won’t be my last.

Book Description: Jamie is an accountant who lives by a strict schedule: every day is planned; the future is predictable. And that schedule includes one night a week when he allows himself to blow off steam at a gay dance club in the City. One Friday night he gets more than he bargained for when he meets Matt, an out of work stranger with long dark hair and rough hands. The attraction is undeniable but Matt does not fit Jamie’s idea of the perfect man to share his carefully ordered life.

Instead, Jamie longs for a date with his dream man: handsome, sophisticated Keith, a successful Vice President at his prestigious New York accounting firm, a man on his way up.

But everything changes when Jamie discovers a suspicious error in one of his accounts. Suddenly, he finds himself on the run from both the mob and the FBI — and the only man who can help him is the tall, dark-haired stranger he rejected. Because Matt is not who he seems — and neither is Keith.

Ink Spots by Lissa Matthews
Reviewed by Eve

Ink Spots blew my socks off. The chemistry between Mandi and Jaz jumps off the page, er, screen. Ms. Matthews has created characters that are deliciously layered. Jaz is a hulking, bald, tattooed ex-con who turns to tongue-tied mush when he’s finally alone with the woman he’s had a crush on for months. Totally butch, he’s so tender when it comes to Mandi that I started crushing on him.

Mandi is bold and shy in turn and the author pulls it off. In Ink Spots, appearances are deceiving and I loved how that theme wove through the book. The sex is practically non-stop but so creative and loving, the book never strayed into repetitive porn-land.

The only thing that made my knee jerk was the conspicuous absence of condoms. Yes it’s fantasy but the hero is a tattoo artist. He’s in daily contact with other people’s blood. ‘Nuf said.

The third book revolving around a group of built, sexy and heavily inked friends, Ink Spots stands well on its own. It’s one of those books I just couldn’t put down.

*

Eve

*

*

Book Description: By night, Mandi is a waitress in her best friend’s adult entertainment club, complete with long raven hair and bright blue eyes. By day, she’s a boutique jewelry maker with a flair for the occasional naughty design. She’s shy, quiet, a definitive Plain Jane—and completely in lust with the one man who wouldn’t ever be interested in her. He’s big, menacing, and inspires every one of her dirty girl desires. If birthday wishes came true, he would be hers.

Tattoo artist. Business owner. Lover of vintage cars. Drummer. Jaz is far from the average guy. Built like a brick wall and inked from head to toe, he can scare the faint of heart with just a look, but faint of heart isn’t what interests him, isn’t what fuels his fantasies and keeps him hard from dawn to dusk. It’s her—the waitress, his sister’s friend, the birthday girl.

Mandi is given the best present ever—Jaz. And she’s got one night to make every wicked thought and erotic dream she’s had about him come true.

Gladiator’s Revenge by Amy Ruttan
Reviewed by Eve

I’m of two minds about Gladiator’s Revenge. I like the premise: two people from different points on the social spectrum fall in love and become instrumental to a notorious event in ancient Rome. I’m a massive history buff so that premise works for me on a lot of levels.

Sadly, what didn’t work for me were the occasional inconsistencies in Gladiator’s Revenge. In one scene, the heroine’s hair and eye color change from dark brown to hazel. Ms. Ruttan got the details of the gladiator’s diet right, but dismisses the fact that these guys were the rock stars of their day, complete with earnings, avid followers and lots of rich women queuing up to have sex with them. I’m afraid I didn’t buy the “denied pleasures of the flesh” line because the hero’s owner believed women weakened gladiators. A marriage bed starts out as large and wooden, and by the time the happy couple wrap things up, it’s narrow.

The second premise of a slave who’s living for revenge, is terrific. Sadly, when our hero is actually close enough to the villain to kill him, that revenge angle has fizzled from the narrative.

I wanted Gladiator’s Revenge to be terrific. For me, it was an average read.

On a whim, Emperor Nero grants Taranis freedom with his choice of a wife. Taranis chooses Lavina, much to the horror of her parents. Only Lavina is not disgusted by this prospect and revels in Taranis’ touch. He finds himself caring for and falling in love with the little Roman.

All Tomorrow’s Halloween Parties by Gwen Campbell
Reviewed by Eve

All Tomorrow’s Halloween Parties is one of the best time-travel novels I’ve read. It’s also a super-hot read that kept me fanning myself and squirming in my chair.

I believed every second of Cari’s story. A researcher from the future, working incognito, she’s professional and makes sure she attracts as little attention as possible. There’s none of this one massive blunder after another that, for me, can take time-travel stories into wall-banger territory. When the heroine is found out, the subtle beauty of Ms. Campbell’s storytelling takes over. I loved how Cari reacted to the everyday things we take for granted—dogs playing, the smell of a newspaper and, yes, the manual flush toilet.

The story wraps up beautifully and I loved the poignancy of it. Although it takes place around Halloween, the story didn’t loose potency for me when I read it in January. I’d recommend you don’t let yourself be put off by this being labeled a “seasonal” book.

For me, All Tomorrow’s Halloween Parties was a sexy, riveting read. The only thing that would make it better would be a sequel. This one is going on my keeper shelf.

Steamy Reunion by Jambrea Jo Jones
Reviewed by Kathy K.

I really enjoyed Steamy Reunion by Jambrea Jo Jones; it’s the kind of story where the good guy does win…and it doesn’t even take to the end. It’s also a story about something that many people—okay I did—worry about: the high school reunion…duh, duh, duh duh.

Okay maybe it’s not *that* big a deal, but I do admit to experiencing a certain amount of trepidation heading to my 10, then 25 year reunions…and I didn’t have any romantic interest from back then.  Of course even if I had, my husband would probably put the kibosh on that. *grin*

Any-ways….

Back to the review:  I could certainly relate to Ambrose’s very unpleasant memories of high school. Those years can be some of the worst and toughest to go through, but I could also see, for him, the draw for going to the reunion. Being as hung up on someone as Ambrose was on Noah—and really it wasn’t any surprise once we met said hot stud—is as good a reason as any in my book.

I can also understand his reasons for hiring a “date.”  But from then on, Ms. Jones took me on a wild ride that didn’t go as I had expected, but one that I certainly enjoyed to the utmost.

This isn’t a change-your-life story, but it is fun, sexy and wonderfully entertaining.

Burn For Me by Jan Springer
Reviewed by Eve

Jan Springer has another winner with Burn For Me. She hurls us into the action with an exciting, provocative opening—a kidnapped bride, no less!—and doesn’t let up. The hero and heroine are mature characters and the sex between them is hot, hot, hot.

Beneath that, Ms. Springer explores their grief, which is ugly and raw. Burn For Me is the well-told journey of two people dealing with the aftermath of the most horrible of losses. It also deals with their struggle to forgive and be forgiven in a way that I thought rounded out the characters perfectly.

The hero, Mason, is the ultimate Alpha male whose heroic flaw had him systematically destroying his relationship with his wife. I loved the slow reveal of him taking responsibility for that flaw, then stepping up and doing something about it.

Burn For Me is well crafted and poignant. It’s yet another Jan Springer book that’s going on my keeper shelf.

Tease by Mina Kelly
Reviewed by Eve

Tease is a beautifully crafted love story. Ms. Kelly is a master story teller. Together, that makes Tease one of my absolute favourite books of 2010.

Tease is full of sensual detail and the story is beautiful to read. The author’s voice is melodic, making her work a joy to read and hard to put down. The plot is absorbing and showcases Ms. Kelly’s mastery of English prose.

The story has everything it ought to: theme, subtext, a heroic flaw and a dark moment that made my throat tighten. I loved the conflict and the hero’s growth.

When you’ve got a couple of indulgent and well-earned hours to yourself, buy Tease, curl up with something warm and spicy to drink, tuck a blanket around yourself and let the fantasy unroll.

Suburban Fantasy 3: Will Work For Blood
by Katica Locke
Reviewed by Eve

Book three in Katica’s Suburban Fantasy line, Will Work For Blood is fast paced and held my attention from start to finish. I thoroughly enjoyed the subplot of how cultural differences can challenge a burgeoning love. Both male leads are strong, proud men and their approach to working out their differences is terrific. I rooted for them every step of the way.

I loved the parallels the author created in the werewolves’ story. Will Work For Blood flowed well and, by the end, no details were left hanging.

In Will Work For Blood, we see Julian’s back story. It’s terrific. Katica finally reveals this unique and imaginative part of the story, and I found her world building very interesting.

Although Will Work For Blood could be read as a stand alone, I think the series would be best read in sequence. Will there be a fourth? I sure hope so!

Surburban Fantasy 1: The Vampire Next Door
By Katica Locke
Reviewed by Eve

The Vampire Next Door is an intriguing twist on the traditional vampire premise. Principal (human) character Simon Walker is beautifully flawed. He earned my grudging empathy despite his overt prejudices. That’s a difficult combination to make believable and kudos to Ms. Locke for making it work.

Vampire Julian’s sister, Raven, at first blush, seems a simple, brooding, background character. As the story progresses, she emerges as a kick-butt presence and yet another example of the fine stretching of Ms. Locke’s untraditional imagination.

I thought the story flowed well and moved fast. Although the story is complete, there were some issues left up in the air. My tingly-senses are saying sequel! I hope they’re right.

If a quick, interesting and inventive read is your thing, give The Vampire Next Door a try.

BOOK DESCRIPTION: When his handsome new neighbor turns out to be a vampire, Simon has only one choice—to kill him. Or is there another option?

Simon is happy to be an average guy, living an average life in a quiet suburb. Then Julian moves into the house next door. Charming, gorgeous, irresistible, Julian is the man of Simon’s dreams…or perhaps his nightmares. He doesn’t understand why being alone with Julian fills him with unease, or why such an irrational fear would be so exciting. After allowing himself to be seduced, Simon discovers Julian’s secret—Julian is a vampire.

Though Julian swears that he won’t hurt Simon, that he’s not that kind of vampire, Simon can’t see beyond the fangs. Fearing for his life, his choice is simple: kill Julian before Julian can kill him. Of course, that’s easier said than done.

Suburban Fantasy 2: A Visit From The Truth Fairy
By Katica Locke
Reviewed by Eve

Book two in the Suburban Fantasy series, A Visit From The Truth Faerie is another inventive take on traditional vampire lore. Katica Locke kept me interested from beginning to end. The world building is becoming more intriguing and complex in this second book but Ms. Locke introduces it slowly…even I didn’t have trouble keeping up.

There’s great conflict throughout and Simon, the human male lead character, is as flawed as ever. This time around though, he’s working through his prejudices. His growth is slow but terrific to watch. I enjoyed taking that journey alongside him.

A Visit From The Truth Faerie should come with a warning. There’s a graphic torture scene that might put some readers off. If you can get past the gore (the scene’s short), I think you’ll find the rest of the book worth the effort.

The Suburban Fantasy series is definitely best read in order.

BOOK DESCRIPTION: Simon learns that it isn’t smart to lie to a truth faerie.

Simon still hasn’t gotten used to living next door to a vampire, and even though Julian is not the monster Simon expected, Simon can’t see past the fangs. When a sadistic faerie turns up on Simon’s doorstep looking for Julian and tortures Simon for the information, Simon has no choice but to seek refuge with his vampire neighbor. Putting his life in the hands of the last person he ever thought he could trust, Simon discovers a few things about vampires and a little about himself, too.

Julian, never short on charm, wastes no time in coaxing Simon into his bed one last time before they all die. Except that Simon isn’t in danger. Julian is the only one they want. Feeling used and betrayed, Simon leaves Julian to face the threat alone, a decision that may prove fatal.

Hawkeye Three: Make Me by Sierra Cartwright
Reviewed by Gabrielle

Hawkeye agents Wesley Lowell and Ms. Inamorata have a great thing going. She finds her relief and is able to leave right after that with no complications of a real relationship but Wesley wants more and he is tired of waiting. When Inamorata’s past comes back to haunt her Wesley sees his chance to finally have her to himself and jumps right in to help her. Hoping to breach her walls and find her heart.

Hawkeye Three: Make Me is a great read. I was pulled into the world of the Hawkeye agents right from the start. Wesley is a good man who loves with all his heart and is more than willing to fight for what he wants. Inamorata is a strong woman who backs down from no one and nothing only finding herself falling and wanting to back down for Wesley. The two make a great couple. They play off of each other very nicely. I loved watching the love blossom between these two. The inner turmoil that Inamorata goes through was an interesting read. As tough as she is she still needs someone to lean on and she must find this out for herself before she can move on. It was nice to see Wesley give her the time and space when she needed it and the love when she needed it as well.

Sierra Cartwright weaves a wonderful tale in Hawkeye Three: Make Me. Well-written, fast paced and with just the right balance of action and romance  this is a book that should not be missed.

Book Description: Competent and in control, Ms. Inamorata, Hawkeye’s righthand woman, has the perfect relationship with hunky fellow operative Wesley Lowell. Several times a week, she shows up at his house, has fabulous sex, meaningless conversation, and then returns home and to her regular life.

Dynamic and determined, Wes has had enough. He’s tired of playing by her rules. He wants more than passion from Inamorata, he wants commitment. One evening, as she’s yet again climbing from his bed to leave him in the middle of the night, he acts, snagging her wrist and refusing to let her go. He bends her over the bed, and takes her the way he wants to: hard, fast, dominating.

Against her own wishes, she responds to his more heated sexual demands. For the first time since they’ve been together, he makes her beg for an orgasm, and beg she does. This oh-so-sexy man turns her life upside down, until she realizes she needs him not only as a demanding lover, but needs him by her side to solve a case that causes past and present to collide.

Darkest Fantasy by Molly Diamond
Reviewed by Red

Darkest Fantasy came across to me as a fairy tale with contemporary overtones and language with a curious mixture of the old and new. Presenting a male character mystified by the appearance of a beautiful dark-haired woman in a certain forest glade, young Jonathan is determined to find out if she is real or not, taking his camera along on a night outing to secure proof of her existence. Once there, he is presented with a choice by the changeable female creature: momentary pleasure or lifelong wealth.

Trying for a dream-like quality so the reader would question whether the young man was actually awake or asleep, I found the toggling back and forth between images jarring in a way that interrupted the story’s flow, yet they did present a nightmarish quality to the overall tale so the title is apt: “Darkest Fantasy”.

The mysterious dark-haired lady reminded me of pagan goddesses described of old, with the possibility of death or ecstasy at their touch, yet the character of Jonathon seemed colourless when compared to her richness so it was hard for me to find him believable but perhaps that is what the author intended. I found this very short story an intriguing idea which many readers will be satisfied by for “Darkest Fantasy” is definitely a sliver of erotic fantasy outside of the norm.

Rein Me In by Larissa Lyons and Alyssa Brooks

Rein Me In is an interesting read definitely not for the faint hearted. Once a year straight laced Susannah takes a vacation and turns into Suzy. Enjoying the wildlife and lots of sex to hold her over until the next year. On a whim she makes her way to a sleepy town where a she comes across Jonah: a blast from her past. The two never had a chance to find the love that they could have had and unbeknownst to Jonah, not knowing the circumstances for his disappearance Susannah blames him.

Suzy not only wants but also needs her sex to be rough and Jonah finds himself eagerly accepting the job. Only pain seems to help her, is the only way she is able to enjoy her sex life. As Jonah tries to find a balance between family and his personal life he finds that he needs Suzy more and more. When you get to see the real Suzy you come to like her. She hides behind her façade and never lets anyone in but Jonah is determined to breach her walls. He is a great man who not only finds love but also himself after so many years of loosing his true self after tragedy struck so many years ago. Suzy and Jonah seem to be made for each other and make a great couple, paying off of each other very well. As hot and rough as the sex is between the two the love that they share shows through it all.

I would caution those who do not enjoy stories with spanking in them to consider that this story contains more than just a little reddening of the skin. Suzy needs more than a simple hand spanking and Jonah is more than happy to oblige Suzy with his belt and domineering ways. Even though this book contains such rough sex it is first and foremost a book about finding ones true self and maybe even finding true love while you are at it.

Love Thy Neighbor by Jack Greene

I love reading Jack Greene and I love m/m/m so I couldn’t resist when I saw the blurb for Love Thy Neighbor. Once again, Jack Greene gives us another great romance and boy is it hot hot hot! I definitely have a new Jack Greene favorite. I’ve already read this story twice and a third is in the cards.

I’m not sure if this one qualifies as a gay for you or maybe, in this case, gay for them. Either way, it worked for me. The trio of Quinn, Ash and Gerard is a heady experience to say the least. While I would surely classify Love Thy Neighbor as erotica, there is a plot, which is one of the reasons I love Jack Greene’s stories so much. He never fails to deliver a romance with lots of heat and still keep you focused on the story itself. But I couldn’t help but wish this had been a full length story because I wanted more. Quinn, Ash and Gerard drew me in and I wasn’t ready to let them go.

For a quick erotic tale with substance, Love Thy Neighbor is a must read in this readers opinion!

A Kinky Little Christmas by Gwen Campbell
Reviewed by Eve

A Kinky Little Christmas steamed up my monitor and it hasn’t recovered yet. Ms. Campbell’s latest release from Shadowfire Press lives up to my opinion that she writes quality erotica. This ménage story could have followed a predictable, porn path. Instead, the author created characters that are layered, flawed and likeable, and a story that I didn’t want to stop reading. I loved following these characters as a relationship developed from a kinky one-of.

The book’s hilarious, fast paced and the conflict—internal and external—made me believe the story, start to finish.

If you’re in need of a break over the holidays, make some time for yourself and your libido and buy a copy. You won’t be disappointed. This one’s definitely going on my keeper shelf…the flameproof one.

Book Description: So they’re not real priests. Who said confession couldn’t be hot as hell anyway?

Bless me, Father, for I’m about to sin. Christmas is coming and my friend, Anna, has roped me into another one of her practical jokes. She’s working as an assistant producer on a film. They’re using one of our gorgeous, local cathedrals, decorated to the rafters for Christmas, for the confessional scene. Anna thinks it would be hilarious if I pretended to be in need of a little soul baring. She’s going to set it up so two of the movie’s hot, leading men—who’re portraying priests—will hear my confession. The plan is for me to steam up the confessional with my most decadent fantasies, confess to acts that would make a gymnast wince, beg for the will to stop asking for more. Problem is, by the time I figure out confession turns me on like crazy, my two pretend brothers-of-the-cloth have decided to drag me home and punish me like a naughty girl for my transgressions.
