Inestimable Blessings by Amanda Young
Reviewed by Kathy K.

A beautiful, heartwarming story from my first M/M author Amanda Young, Inestimable Blessings is testament to love in its many forms.

Amanda’s writing is very sensual and her stories flow beautifully; I always get so caught up in the lives of her characters and the eroticism when her men love each other is sexy, very hot and often simply sweet. She really knows how to portray people falling in love and she is able to share with the reader the emotional component of relationships.

Lee is such a wonderful person and someone that I would love to call friend. Even though he’s not found that certain special someone he’s going ahead with his life and doing something to achieve his dream of being a father.  Watching as the birth of his child neared I completely shared in his excitement; no it’s more than just mere excitement.  What Lee is experiencing, along with some trepidation, is joy… complete and utter joy. And his feelings spilled from the pages and worked their way to my heart. It brought back the amazing memories of my own pregnancies and the incredible and often overwhelming feelings associated with becoming a parent a first or even fourth time.  What a gift!

Then when Lee finally connected with his neighbour Finn… that was HOT and thrilling in its own right. And it added a separate texture to Lee’s life that, again, was extremely heartwarming.

I loved the dynamics of the relationship between Finn and Lee; the humour and the thrill of finding someone with whom you can be yourself flowed and thrilled at the same time. And I totally loved Finn’s dog… oh my heavens. Finn may not have ever entertained the idea of being a father, but his dog Rowdy is a sweet and perfect substitute.

Amanda Young’s Inestimable Blessings will have you laughing, cheering, crying—okay I cried, you may just sniffle here and there—and overall just celebrating love in many of its incarnations.  Once again one of my very favourite authors has taken us on a journey and one that I will be happy to take again and again.

Kathy K.

Book Description:  Lee Calder’s life is right on track. He has a small circle of close friends, a career he loves, and a baby on the way via a surrogate. Mr. Right is nowhere to be found, but Lee isn’t about to let that little tidbit rain on his parade. He’s more than willing to thrust his other needs aside and focus on fulfilling his lifelong dream of being a father.

With his love life in the gutter, Lee turns to fantasies of his hunky neighbor, Finn Alexander. His daydreaming is merely a harmless diversion until Finn comes to Lee’s rescue on a dark and stormy night.

To Lee’s surprise, the chemistry they shared in his imagination is nothing compared to the real thing. Finn is as hot between the sheets as Lee always envisioned. Better still, they get along famously outside the bedroom. The only things standing in the way of Lee having it all are the bundle of joy due any minute and Finn’s apparent aversion to children.

Okay, so had the blurb covered what this book was about, I can say I probably wouldn’t have read it. Saying why is a spoiler, even if I feel that by not divulging the true nature of the story in the blurb is cheating the reader of making a informed decision on whether to purchase the book.

The beginning of this story had me hooked. I was interested in Mikhail and Devon’s relationship and why it fell apart. Their meeting  up again despite the circumstances was well played. Mikhail and Devon clicked for me. I like them a lot. The fact that these two are in love was obvious.  It wasn’t until about three quarters of the way through the book that things really fell apart for me, because nothing in the blurb or the story leading up to this point even hinted to where the story was actually going. Granted, it’s listed as science fiction but it didn’t start out that way and when it finally got there, I just wasn’t buying where the authors went with it. And that is a shame because up until then the book had me glued to me seat.

I would try these two authors again but I’m thinking I might find myself waiting until I read some of the reviews, just to be sure I would be getting what the blurb advertised.

Teaser: D, a former US Army captain, and Mikhail, a seductive Russian mercenary who wants to retire, join forces in a clandestine CIA op, battling both their mutual desires and an enemy who gives new meaning to the term WTF.

Book Description: A mercenary for the past decade, Mikhail Volkov is a man without a country and that suits him just fine. Playing by his own rules, on his own terms, for the price he sets, is the way he likes it best. But when a CIA contact dangles a carrot he can’t resist to entice him into a clandestine search-and-rescue, Mikhail is brought face–to-face with the biggest foe he has yet to vanquish: his own loneliness.

Growing up, Devon ‘D’ Dearborn planned to follow in his father’s footsteps as part of the Army’s Delta Force. Once commissioned, D’s own ambitions took root and he became a top-level tank commander, occasionally serving as a go-between for his CIA-employed brother and a sexy Russian mercenary. When his doubts about his chosen career and his own sexual desires impacted the perfection he demanded of himself, D resigned his commission and exchanged his Abrams tank for an 18-wheeler.

After six years, the last face D expects to see when he pulls his rig into a truck stop is that of Mikhail Volkov. D wants nothing to do with his brother’s cloak-and-dagger job, but the temptation of working alongside the Russian is too hard to resist. And so is the sexy Russian.

Publisher’s Note: This book contains explicit sexual content, graphic language, and situations that some readers may find objectionable: Male/male sexual practices.

May Day by Bryl R. Tyne
Reviewed by Theresa

May Day is a May/December romance with an m/m/m bent—two of my favorite tropes in one book. As much as I liked May Day, I was sorry there wasn’t more of it. I really felt that this story would have benefited from being longer.

I knew what Ed was after, he wanted to get laid. It wasn’t quite so clear what Ryan and Kyle were after. I mean, it became rather obvious that Kyle was trying to find a Dom for Ryan but the why was not given. That missing information took away some of my enjoyment of the story. It was an important missing link.

That aside it was a good story. Something about Ed having both Kyle and Ryan in his life really worked for the hopeless romantic in me.  I look forward to reading some more of Bryl R. Tyne’s m/m romances. This was my first but won’t be my last.

Theresa

Book Description: His forty-ninth birthday approaching, Ed is expecting nothing more than his usual stiff drink and an anonymous fuck in the back room of Yancy’s Crossings. What he never expected was to be picked up by two college students and taken for a ride that would change his life forever.

Tiger by the Tail by Shelley Munro from Ellora’s Cave “Twilight” collection

I just took a walk on the wild side with this story.  An excellent read, done by an outstanding writer. You could not ask for more. I loved the story line, was impressed on how she developed the story from start to finish.  The character’s were fun to follow and see what would transpire over the course of the story.  Ms. Munro takes us into the lives of three special people and shows how they made their commitment and lives work to the best of the ability.

I would recommend Ms. Munro to any reader. Tiger by the Tail is book nine in a series but I did not feel as if I was dropped into a story without a background, it easily stands alone.

Cinderella

Book Description: Middlemarch Mates, Book Nine

One plus one equals three.

Tiger shifter Hari Daya takes one look at Ambar Patel’s photo and is smitten. Further research heightens his fascination. An arranged marriage would work, except the lady isn’t buying and tells him to take a hike.

Ambar is already involved with human Jake Quinn. Casual pleasure and lovin’ works best for her since she dreams of traveling the world and delving into new experiences. The frisson of heat and desire she feels for Hari is unacceptable. There will be no tiger mate for her.

Jake Quinn has no idea either his lover or his new friend are shifters, but there sure as hell is something weird going on in his head. As much as he enjoys sex with Ambar, he’s thinking about Hari too. Suddenly there’s kissing and togetherness way past his comfort zone. The slide into sinful pleasure with both Hari and Ambar is easy—it’s the relationship dynamics that give them headaches and make them wonder if they’re making a huge mistake.

The Great Outdoors by Lucy Felthouse
Reviewed by Justine

The two short stories offered in The Great Outdoors was a walk on the wild side or more accurately two hikes down a fun erotic path of adventurous sex. “A Birds Eye View” and “Fun in the Forest” are tales of eager and uninhibited heroines taking advantage of serendipitous events that afford them uniquely different sexual interludes. “A Bird’s Eye View” was a hot charge of adrenalin that ended on an embarrassingly funny note.  I could see this happening in reality. “Fun in the Forest” is the longer of the two works (though the entire offering is only about 12 pages long) and my favorite.  A Scottish gamekeeper helping a damsel in distress conjured erotic images of Gerard Butler and a mature Sean Connery for me. What can I say?  It’s that accent, yummy!  British colloquialism/verbiage “…a good seeing to” and “doodle” put me in the appropriate frame of mind and setting and I was in the thick of the adventures in no time. The Great Outdoors is a quick fun read I thoroughly enjoyed.  Rule Britannia, Ms. Felthouse!

Justine

Book Description: Whether you love or loathe the great outdoors – these stories will get you hot under the collar! In Bird’s Eye View – the main character gets more than she bargained for when she heads out for a walk. In Fun in the Forest, a dull team-building exercise suddenly takes a turn for the better for Anna.

Submit with Me by Amber Skyze

Rena and Marc are both looking for something, and they get it from each other. Rena wants to get laid and Marc needs someone to submit to him. They meet in a bar, and within moments leave together. Rena’s going to get her wish, she’s going to get laid, but she has to do something for Marc. She has to fulfill his want. She needs to submit, something she has never done before.

I had some difficulty with this book. I found it difficult to connect to the characters; I just didn’t find them very plausible. I couldn’t comprehend why Rena would leave with someone whom she has never met before, to go play the submissive with.  I understand that she was looking for a hook up, but my mind couldn’t let go of the fact that she was placing herself in such a dangerous position.

One of the first things you are taught in the community, the BDSM community that is, is that you play it safe. There was no talk of boundaries, no talk of limits. Yes a safe word was put into place, but how can you expect someone you have just met to honour it. How can you play with someone for the first time, and not speak (other than your safe word). Those moans, those squeaks, and those cries of pain, that is what your partner should be using to determine what you can and can’t take.

Marc didn’t do it for me either. He wasn’t a very confident dominant. He constantly seemed hesitant and unsure. I didn’t really understand why he was looking for a submissive. He didn’t understand some of her reactions and motivations. It felt like a game to him.

I do have to admit, that some of the toys used made me curious. I will definitely be on the lookout for some of them ;)

Nixie

Book Description: Rena is on a quest to get laid and she’s willing to go to any length to fulfill her need.

Marc has a thirst for a submissive. He longs to find someone he can bring to the edge of ecstasy and rein back in before an orgasm. He wants to tie, tease and torture his submissive, pushing the limits of sexual awareness.

When he offers Rena five hundred dollars to be his sub for the night, he gets more than he bargained for. This spitfire is about to show him a thing or two about submitting.

The Lady’s Not a Vamp by Tessie Bradford
Reviewed by Eve

Tessie Bradford has created an intriguing, paranormal corner of Michigan in The Lady’s Not A Vamp. For me, the heroine was genuine and displayed just enough insecurities and ignorance to let her growth potential captivate me from the get-go.

Unfortunately, I felt making this book Quickie length did a disservice to Ms. Bradford’s voice and her story. Don’t get me wrong. The Lady’s Not A Vamp is a great, quick, erotic read. I’m just not one for letting my appetite be whet then having the sundae bowl taken away before I work my way down to the delicious, chewy brownie bits. For me, there was no subtlety in the narrative during the first half of the book. The parameters the author constructs for her vampires are listed as given facts…all tell and no show. I believe that, given the length of the book, there’s no time for world building. That’s a shame because Ms. Bradford’s vampires and their world are unique and fascinating. The story ended so abruptly I toggled back a page because I was sure I’d missed something. The abruptness made me yearn for a part two so I could find out where the main characters’ personal and professional lives go.

Ms. Bradford does slow the narrative beautifully during the second half of the book. The sex scenes are erotic and loving. I thought they showcased the author’s gift for narrative, and was disappointed I only got to hear that voice for half of the book.

If the literary gods are listening, Ms. Bradford will do her readers a favor and start on an expanded version of The Lady’s Not A Vamp. Yesterday.

The Diamond Tree by Michael Matson
Reviewed by Kathy K.

Even though this is touted as a children’s fantasy story I have to admit to falling in love with Michael Matson’s The Diamond Tree.  His storytelling was magical but with an element of real life to it.  Dall didn’t complete his quest in a matter of days or weeks, but rather it took years; I really enjoyed that facet of the story.  Even as a child you know that really big things don’t happen overnight so it’s refreshing to read a story where important work takes time; wonderful!

While this is also labeled fantasy, to my mind it would be just as appropriate to call it a fairy tale, but a more modern version. But whatever you would call this story, I call it fabulous!  And it’s a story that I will enjoy sharing again and again with the children in my life.  All I can say is thank heavens that kids love going over favorite stories again and again; it gives me a chance to return over and over to Dall’s adventures with nary a wince… after all I’m reading it to the kids. *grin*

Kathy K.

Note from Ebook Addict: I debated for a few minutes about having a review for children’s book on a mainly erotic review site but than decided that as parents we are the ones who buy the books for our children and what better way to find new and interesting books they might enjoy than when we are reading reviews for the books we read.

Book Teaser: Daring princes, princesses in need of saving, dragons and magical lands…who could ask for more?

Book Description: Dall is eager to prove himself a worthy prince, but what do you do when your older brothers have already slain every dragon and rescued all the princesses? You heed the advice of an old woman and set off on a quest! When Dall starts finding diamonds along the way, he discovers his quest may have a more unique ending than he had planned.

A Demon Inside by Rick R. Reed
Reviewed by Kathy K.

I have to admit to approaching A Demon Inside by Rick Reed with some apprehension; when it comes to horror I’m an out-and-out wuss… truly!  But I’ve also read quite a few of Rick’s other books and been totally drawn into the story regardless of the genre.  And in A Demon Inside Mr. Reed’s done himself proud.  We’ll just leave it at me being a cringing coward okay? *eyeroll*

While I liked Hunter Beaumont I must say that I couldn’t relate to him all that well, especially at the beginning of the story. The macabre murder of his parents when he was but a young boy was horrible and I can somewhat understand his from-then very sheltered upbringing.  Poor Hunter; he really wasn’t equipped to dealing with much of anything, but I do have to say that as the book continued he underwent a huge growth spurt, so to speak, as far as becoming an independent adult.  But it was definitely NOT an easy one; it certainly showed his mettle and my respect for him went ever higher.

The story opens up on a sad yet somewhat disturbing scene and you just know that things are NOT going to be going well for anyone so cursed. Rick sure sets the scene in a hurry and he does it so eerily to the point where I felt I should be looking over my shoulder… but THAT wasn’t going to happen.  By the way, if you’re going to read this book, make sure you start early in the morning so that you’ll be done well before nightfall… unless, of course, you’re a horror aficionado and you laugh at eerie and evil happenings.  *shudder*

There is definitely evil abroad in Beaumont House, and seriously you just know that Hunter should have done as his grandmother asked on her deathbed. But I could quite easily understand Hunter’s motives for not doing so.  Although I did, once or twice, feel that things were a little too scripted without giving us much information. In other words, things happened—things I expected would because it’s how a horror story should go—but at the same time I was wondering just why and not getting any answers.  That could just be me liking all my is dotted and ts crossed; and, in the end, really it’s not really a big deal.

A Demon Inside is, without a doubt, a scary story… chillingly so I might add, but I found it to be more than that. It’s a case of the whole being bigger than the parts that comprise it.  Added to the element of horror is that of self-discovery, of coming to terms with the crap that we’re all dealt and still moving ahead… and it’s a romance.  The romance is somewhat underplayed, but it is there and I would have loved to have a more complete look at Hunter’s future. But at the same time, while A Demon Inside is a horror story, it’s also a look at the dark side of humanity and how twisted some people can be when they focus too much on their pain, their wants… their, their their.

Okay, what I meant to say in fewer words is that the Rick Reed has, with A Demon Inside, given us the past and Hunter’s present because with the understanding that if Hunter could survive all that then his future can only be brighter.  And it’s one excellent story all the way through…even for those who shudder at the idea of horror!

Kathy K.

Book Description:  Hunter Beaumont doesn’t understand his grandmother’s deathbed wish: “Destroy Beaumont House.” He’d never even heard of the place. But after his grandmother passes and his first love betrays him, the family house in the Wisconsin woods looks like a tempting refuge. Going against his grandmother’s wishes, Hunter flees to Beaumont House.

But will the house be the sanctuary he had hoped for? Soon after moving in, Hunter realizes he may not be alone. And who—or what—he shares the house may plunge him into a nightmare from which he may never escape. Sparks fly when he meets his handsome neighbor, a caretaker for the estate next door, but is the man his salvation…or is he the source of Hunter’s terror?

All for Shayla by Ava McKnight

This was a really quick fun read. If not a little scary. Shayla, who is supposed to be a good girl – socialite and all, has a thing for bad boys, but she isn’t very safe about it. Some guy picks her up, while she’s walking down the street. She just climbs into his car to go to his place, so they can have sex? Yikes!

Despite that, this was a really hot story. Keith isn’t the bad boy she thinks he is, and yet he is still incredibly sexy. I loved that Carla, Keith’s roommate, joins in on the fun (although I was a bit perplexed that a lesbian – not bi – would be willing to touch a penis, but that might just be me).  There is no HEA in this story, although I still loved it. It is all about getting off, and the author does a good job of making sure that happens!

This was a hot threesome, and you don’t often see many m/f/f. I really hope to see more in the future.

Book Description: Who says you can’t always get what you want? Shayla is a Savannah socialite with a secret fetish for bad boys. When the younger, mysterious Keith pulls up in a hot muscle car, she knows he’s exactly what she wants. Even if it’s only for one night.

Big Diehl: The Road Home by George Seaton
Reviewed by Kathy K.

Although this story by the new-to-me George Seaton is over 400 pages long, it’s one that I could not stop thinking about regardless of how long it took me to get back to it—real life and all does have a way of interfering with my reading sometimes.  But even so, I could not get Big Diehl—the book or the character—out of my mind… not that I wanted to, oh heck no! And once I got back to Big and his journey home the pages flew by. This is not an action-packed thriller it’s mostly an introspective retrospective of Big Diehl’s return to civilian life. But don’t let that fool you because Big Diehl: The Road Home is overwhelmingly addictive, and I use that in the best sense of the word

In Big Diehl, George Seaton has created a character who is, in many ways, larger-than-life. Even from the pages of the book I was captured by Diehl’s charisma. He sees himself as nobody special, yet his special-ness leaps off the page to tempt any reader. There may not be a lot of action, but that doesn’t mean that this is a slow tale.  On the contrary, for much of the book I was on tenterhooks and I needed to know… everything and now.

Diehl’s adventures, and there’s much more adventure than I had expected, kept me riveted to the pages. There’s loss and pain, sadness and joy, rediscovery and new discoveries, self examination and a story that won’t quit giving.

Mr. Seaton’s characters take on a life and personality of their own. Diehl himself is, on the surface, slow and deliberate. But underneath he’s a man of fortitude, instinct, integrity and raw intelligence. He’s also got the biggest heart of anyone I’ve ever met. One of the characters early on tells Diehl that ‘you can’t love them all.’ But Diehl can and does; everyone with whom he develops an intimate connection ends up being someone that Diehl loves… and it’s forever.  I still marvel at the depth of character, the emotional connection that George Seaton has imbued Big Diehl.  He’s someone that will live long in my imagination and memory; he’s the kind of person that no one forgets and I only wish that instead of 400+ pages, we had double that so that the time spent with Diehl was extended.

Big Diehl is the kind of person that, once you find, you hold onto. And George Seaton is an author who has rocketed onto my list of favourite authors and one whose stories are now auto-buys and immediate-reads.  Amazingly life-like and sure to capture the hearts of the most discerning reader, Big Diehl is more than a character in a story. He is someone whose story should be a must-read and for me, is a re-read.

Kathy K.

Book Description:  Diehl’s return to Wyoming from six years of service to his country—including combat in Iraq—is colored with a dark intent to even the score with his father. But before he can once again embrace that family, including Tony, a ranch hand with a military history of his own, Diehl’s single-minded purpose of revenge against his father precipitates events that turn his life in a direction never envisioned. His comfort through it all, is Jack, a Border Collie who Diehl rescues from certain death; a dog who, perhaps, rescues Diehl from himself.

Ms. Grey’s “Her Laird, Her Lover” is a mini masterpiece of a novella in the tradition of the larger works of Kathleen Woodiwiss’ The Wolf and The Dove and Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander series.  In case you’re not getting my vibe, let me make it clear, I absolutely loved this novella!  The characters, setting, plot were as near perfection as I’ve read.  Katie Stewart is a woman out of her time.  She’s articulate, feisty and gives as good as she gets.  Robert Shelley, the Laird of Dunham is a man of his times, use to commanding and being obeyed.  He’s never meant the like of Katie before and despite the ruse Katie and her ‘mother’ play on him, he can not take offense.  I was as captivated with both of these characters, as they were with each other.  I giggled at their cat and mouse games of one-upmanship, each determined to rule the other.  I grinned as each was captured by the willfulness, intelligence and sex of the other. By sex I mean that undefineable something that attracts a man to one woman and a woman to one particular man.  Their sexual romps left me a little breathless.  I smiled as they discovered the unexpected passion in each others arms.  There’s humor, sorrow, revenge and love in this little gem propelled by two wonderful main characters, a nice supporting case and the intrigue of war on the Scottish Highlands.  I feel sorry for you Ms. Grey.  Book 1 in your Scattered Series is going to be a hard act to follow.  Well done!

Teaser: When Scottish laird Robert Shelley seeks counsel from a woman rumored to have the gift of knowing, he gets much more than he pays for.

Book Description: Scottish border lord Robert Shelley doesn’t believe that the blind woman has the gift of knowing, and quickly learns that his suspicions are correct, but what he doesn’t expect is the searing lust she ignites inside him.

Katie Stewart has been swept back into medieval time and has adjusted the best way she knows how—by conning her way into enough coins to survive. She’s content with her life until a big Scotsman walks into her cottage and seizes her heart, making her want more than just his gifts and the occasional romp. Katie wants him—forever.

Dream Come True by DC Juris
Reviewed by Justine

Dreams Come True hooked me with its opening paragraph.  I love the idea of individuals from different worlds overcoming obstacles to be together.  Jinsu and Tristan are men haunted by visions of the other.  Jinsu will risk everything, his home and his twin to be with the man of his dreams –his soul mate.  Tristan, on the other hand, questions his own sanity because of his obsession for the man who haunts his dreams and monopolizes his waking thoughts.  Why can Jinsu believe of an impossible improbable love and Tristan can not?  That is the interesting crux in Mr. Juris’ work.  Though I liked this short novella, there were a couple of moments that threw me out of the story.  An author’s muse takes him or her where it will, but the introduction of incest as a common practice on Jinsu’s world, the reveal of Jinsu’s participation and with whom, jarred my sensibilities.  The subject is mentioned briefly later in the story and could just as easily been eliminated all together.  Also, my believability scale tipped to zero when Tristan does what I think is absolutely incredulous after meeting the man, literally of his dreams.  Believe me, I want to tell you so badly but it’s a plot spoiler.  Those two comments aside, I liked Dreams Come True.  The author flirts at the possibility of a sequel and I hope he follows through.  Surely Jinsu’s twin has a tale to tell.

Teaser: Tristan knows that Jinsu is just a drawing…. A made-up, elaborate version of Tristan’s perfect man. All in Tristan’s head. Jinsu isn’t real. Or…is

Book Description: Driven by dreams of his soul mate Tristen, Jinsu steps through the portal to Earth, leaving all he has ever known behind. Little does he know that Tristan has had dreams too, but unlike Jinsu, Tristan doesn’t believe in them. When they meet, will they both discover that dreams really can come true?

The Antaren Affair by Erica Anderson
Reviewed by Eve

The Antaren Affair is one hot read. I found the plotting subtle and intriguing, much like the complex language the author has created for the Antares.

Ms. Anderson has crafted complex characters as well. The hero carries his physical and emotional scars with dignity and deliberation. I was impressed by the author’s adeptness in layering honor, determination and intelligence via the subtle weaving of his back-story throughout the book. It’s given to us in little bites that were painless as well as seamless to read.

Avar’s character complements the heroine’s perfectly. I adored Meraya because she is just as honorable as Avar, perhaps more considering her place in her world is a subservient one. I loved that they were so well matched, despite the disparate differences in their stations in life.

The world building is intriguing so if you like a solid Sci-Fi alongside your erotica, The Antaren Affair is a must-read.

My only complaint about The Antaren Affair is there’s almost too much sex. I can’t believe I’m actually complaining about this. The first half of the book, except for a short scene around Avar’s arrival, details Avar and Meraya’s first night together. While I agree the detail is necessary to initiate a relationship between them that goes beyond sex, for me, the flow of the book dipped at the halfway point because I started wishing they’d get out of bed and get on with the story. Like I said, I can’t believe I’m complaining.

Well done, Ms. Anderson! I’m looking forward to more from you.

Book Description: Colonel Rákōsy Avar is an officer in the Imperial Forces sent to the planet Antares to negotiate an alliance. He’s learned the hard way to trust no one and has only one passion—duty. But when an Antaren kebara is sent to serve him in any way he desires, she proves too great a temptation for the battle-scarred warrior. Although he suspects a trap, he still wants her on her back. In his bed.

Meraya is a woman trained to provide sexual pleasure. A woman whose duty is to serve. She has never known freedom. Or desire. She discovers both in the arms of the barbarian colonel. But Meraya is a pawn in a deadly game of interstellar politics that could cost her everything…including her heart.

When Avar discovers he wants more than the paradise found between Meraya’s lovely thighs, he must play for the highest stakes ever, gambling with the life of a woman he can’t resist. A woman whose betrayal would destroy him.

The Zagzagel Diaries: Denial, Desperate and Forsaken
by Bryl R. Tyne
Reviewed by Cinderella

I have had the privilege of reading three of the Zagzagel Diaries by Bryl R. Tyne.
All of the stories are exceptional writing. I loved the way the author pulls you into the stories with all the emotions they are conveying in print. I felt like a voyeur in the corner watching these stories unfold and each character taken life. All three books Denial, Desperate, and Forsaken are excellent reads and are not dependent with one another if you’d rather not read all three. My only wish is that they were longer because I always want more so I hope Bryl R. Tyne will keep writing stories in this same vein. What a wonderful setting this author has brought to us to experience.

Cinderella

Denial: The guardian angel Zagzagel returns to save another of his charges, this time a young woman selling herself on the streets instead of saving herself for love. This is Book 2 of The Zagzagel Diaries series.

Desperate: Coming to terms with who you are can sometimes make you take desperate measures. The angel Zagzagel returns in this third entry to the series to help his charge choose love over murder.

Forsaken: An unconventional guardian angel attempts to keep his gay charge from committing suicide, while wrestling with his own personal issues. This is the first in the Zagzagel Diaries series.

Melting Iron by Laurann Dohner
Reviewed by Eve

This book should come with a warning. Don’t start reading unless you’ve got enough time to finish. It was harder to put down than a tub of Ben & Jerry’s.

Ms. Dohner definitely has a winner with Melting Iron. The third book in the Cyborg Seduction series, it stands well on its own but you’re going to want to read the first two. I definitely do.

Melting Iron was told in first person, from Dawn’s point of view. It was an inspired choice because it enhanced the slight feeling of distance from the cyborg hero, Iron. He’s part machine, right down to his electronic implants, and his emotional distance and cool logic keep Dawn and the reader guessing about the depth of his feelings. The slight mechanical cadence of his speech, which Ms. Dohner maintains beautifully throughout the book, adds to this veneer of standoffishness.

Both Dawn and Iron are flawed people. Their inability to trust was well established through their background stories and I believed every moment of their conflict. Their struggles with jealousy and the interest of others kept me rooting for them, while setting up enough tension that I was never sure they’d be able to make it together. The society in which Iron lives is well crafted, and flawed enough to make me rage against the injustices in this make-believe world.

Well done, Ms. Dohner! I look forward to reading more of your work.

Eve

Book Description: Being a female mechanic on a space station for eight years has taught Dawn a lot of tough life lessons that have hardened her heart. She’s got a temper and a mouth to match her red hair and has never backed away from a challenge. Then she’s kidnapped and blackmailed into agreeing to be a cyborg’s personal sex slave.

Iron is one big bastard with long, fiery red hair, intense, dark blue eyes and a stubborn streak as thick as his dense muscles. If Iron thinks he can tame her, he’s about to learn that “meek” is not in Dawn’s vocabulary. But with that handsome face, a body to die for, a wickedly talented tongue and those magical hands, the guy just doesn’t fight fair.

Dawn is intent on melting Iron’s icy resolve to never fall in love with a human. He’s winning her heart and she’s determined to win his right back. These two redheads have just met their matches. Let the battle for love begin.
